At Home: Chez Poulet Coop & Chickens

Heatherbullardcoop-136

It’s been quite a while since I first posted about our chicken coop. Actually, it’s been over 2 years! I can’t believe it’s been that long. It’s still one of my most popular posts and we continue to sell plans to the coop every day. It’s been quite an adventure.

Over the weekend, I had some time to take new photos to share with you. Not much has changed…a few plants have been added, a new fence and some new “girls”….

We’re often asked if we would change anything about our design and we’re happy to report…no. It works well for the five hens we raise and has proven to be incredibly easy to clean. We just pull a trash bin up to the coop doors, scrape out the used shavings to add to the compost pile, then hose down the inside and let dry.
Hope you enjoyed the little coop tour…thanks for stopping by.

Lucky chickens…I wouldn’t mind being a chicken if I could live in that chicken coop!:) Beautiful images, wow.

  3. Doreen

Wow. Stunning photographs. And that is the prettiest coop I’ve ever seen. I just love it.

Beautiful photos!!!! Every time I see your lovely coop I tell my husband I want one. And every time he looks at me like I’ve got a screw loose and reminds me of my youth and being attacked by my grandmother’s hens.

I wish I was a chicken living there. I love it. I also love the photos!

It’s even more lovely now with the additions of the succulents. Your girls look quite happy and beautiful. This makes me want chickens to join my family on the mountain. Thank you for the lovely photographs.

I’ve always wished we could have chickens. You make me want them even more after seeing how beautiful their coop is and decorated with beautiful greenery here and there.

This is truly the dreamiest coop ever! Your chicks must be the envy of all others – sigh…maybe someday we will get there.

I have been inspired by all that you do and share here on your blog…and since it’s my week to give shout outs to those I’m thankful for (Thanksgiving here in the USA tomorrow!) Quick question. What kind of chicken is the multicolored one with the dark legs and what color eggs does it lay?? I have 11right now, an every year get one or two to replace those that get old, would love this color.

    Hi Linda,
Yes, we have an unintentional rooster mixed in. We are going to give him to a local farm that keeps and raises them. Unfortunately, we aren’t zoned for roosters. Too bad since he’s so pretty and friendly.
    Thanks for stopping by!

Your coop is gorgeous! I am curious, have you seen any of the copies out there that were built with your plans? Do you know if any of them have made their way onto the Internet?

    Hi Heather,
I’m in Australia (I sell vintage French brocante) and read Souvenir magazine..but it’s lovely to find your website with more beautiful photos. I love your chicken coop – they have to be the luckiest chickens in the world, surrounded by French pieces! It makes me tempted to consider chickens for our yard…
    Best wishes,
    Alison

Lovely coop, hens, and a rooster (chap in the last photo)! But I suppose you have figured that out by now. 😉
Did you have a hard time finding a home for him?

  17. AliceM

Such a beautiful coop. I am thrilled that there are plans for this! I just ran into this post and see that you have expanded your girls area. Did you find you needed to give them some more room to roam? Can you say what made you decide to expand? Just curious as I am planning my outside chicken area.

    thanks for the inspiration!

    Hi Heather,

Love this… I live on Long Island and have been considering adding a coup to my yard for sometime now. I am still doing my homework. Can you answer a question or two? Our winters can be cold and sometimes pretty snowy… does that pose a problem for my chicken friends? And, I have heard that it can become a problem as the chickens age, and because I become attached to my friends, would never consider them being our source of food, so, what happens to these ladies when they don’t lay eggs anymore, if you don’t want to keep adding more and more chickens? Any ideas? Thanks so much. I love following your blog and Pinterest! Warm Regards, Carol

Hi Heather! I have been a fan of yours for quite some time now and secretly lusted over your coop! I just read your interview with Anita from Cedar Hill Ranch and enjoyed it. I would love for you to do a guest post (could be one of your chickens posts from your blog if you want) or interview with me for my blog. I have many fans who I am sure would love to read it!

Hi! I am new to your blog and just adore your coop. My husband and I are preparing to begin raising chickens and I wondered if you could share more details on how the chicken coop sliding door and pulley works and was designed. We would like to install something similar as our run is not full height and will make operating from outside the coop far more convenient! Thanks in advance and for all the inspiration you and your girls of Chez Poulet have given us 🙂

  21. Laura Pitten

    Hi Heather!
I have my chicks and my Chez Poulet plans; and am ready to build our “Pitten’s Perch”!
You mentioned that you have 5 hens, how many do you think your coop design will accommodate?
    Thank you for your response,
    Laura Pitten

The chicken coop is beautiful. And I love the pure functionality of the doors. It looks like the entire coop can be opened up! Did you build it from plans? I would love to know where you got it from.

    Christina
