Copper Tea Kettle & Mugs
I’ve been on a little bit of a copper kick. I think it’s because I can’t get on board with the whole brass trend since the 80’s and 90’s are still very fresh in my mind. So copper it is.
While out running errands with my daughter, we stopped by an estate sale (haven’t done that in AGES) and I bought a set of 6 copper mugs. That sort of set the ball rolling…
Oh, and I found a crusty old cutting board at Tancredi & Morgen. It’s one of those, didn’t buy it when I saw it and had to drive back for it, kind of items. I’m pretty sure a few of you can relate. 😉
Then I decided to start trolling Ebay after a 5 year hiatus! I wanted a tea kettle for what I’m hoping will be an extremely chilly fall and winter in California. This one was made in Finland and I absolutely adore the shape…straight and curvy lines. That lip around the bottom was made so it could be set on the old wood burning stoves. I just love that detail!
I probably should polish it, or not. It did get a good scrubbing and has made several pots of tea.
Have you bought anything off Ebay lately? I couldn’t believe it had been 5 years for me!

I just bought copper mugs like yours but for Moscow Mules-so good!
Oh yum! I was thinking of using them for hot cocoa or chili and soups…but I like your idea even better!
Those copper pieces are amazing! Such personality. Can’t do brass either! I buy regularly from eBay & etsy, collecting gifts for Christmas & birthdays. I find if you look regularly you will come across some great treasures. Great buys!
I’ve been buying off Etsy but somehow forgot Ebay…will keep checking every now and again for special finds. How great that you do your gift shopping on both sites!
Talk about absolutely crazy… so this morning Caitlin over at The Merrythought posted a recipe for a Mocktail Moscow Mule in, none other then, a copper mug which I immediately pinned because Chris asked me to start my Christmas list. (its easier if I provide him with pictures and has proved to make Christmas and birthdays much more harmonious!) i hopped on the computer after getting back from grocery shopping where i also purchased the mocktail version of the moscow mule ingredients. Then you post about these delicious mugs…. and a comment was made about a moscow mule.

I’ve had a hankering for copper, too. Never ever enjoyed brass. Years ago Sur La Table had wonderful copper and I was fortunate enough to have bought some. I especially love my heart shaped cake pan and double-boiler Definitely a trend toward copper and pewter.
Oooh, I’m completely coveting a copper preserve pan from Sur La Table. But it’s super pricey…keep trying to justify the purchase when my cast iron enamel works pretty well. Maybe I’ll splurge one day.
And I’m with you on the copper and pewter!

I have those exact mugs! My uncle used to run an auction and I had to have the set one Friday night, gosh, it’s been close to 40 years ago now. When did I get so old?!
Fun! I haven’t been to an auction in over a decade. There aren’t very many in my area. Luckily we have really, really good flea markets!
I love copper. My daughter in law just redid her kitchen and used the prettiest copper pendant lights over her island, then she used copper rims on the recessed lights in the kitchen. It’s such a timeless metal but I forget about it sometimes.
I’ve never heard of a Mocktail Moscow Mule, but my husband was a Russian studies guy in college, maybe I’ll have to look it up for us.

The Mocktail part is referring to the non-alcoholic version of the drink. They’re made with vodka, ginger beer and lime. I’ve never had one!
I was under the impression that unlined copper items are unsafe to use for food. especially hot items. Have you heard anything of this?
I’d read this, too, last winter, that the verdigris is actually toxic, and found out that’s why old copper cookware is tinned on the inside, a process that had to be re-done when it became worn. I so love the warmth of copper – was lucky enough to snag a vintage light fixture for my kitchen from ebay for a song! Your mugs are just lovely, Heather!

The copper mugs are beautiful…my daughter got married in August & wanted to continue the gold color scheme of her wedding in the centerpieces. She decided we would scout for brass pieces since anything “gold” would be gaudy or $$. I haven’t been a brass fan for years but I bought several pieces on Etsy and now kind of love ’em. Once they are shined and brought back to life, they are quite lovely. Pretty pieces are actually hard to find here in Texas. Just wanted to share….
