Santa Barbara Chicken Coop
On our recent trip to Santa Barbara which I wrote about here and here we came across a beautiful home decor store called Rooms and Gardens with the most charming surprise tucked in the back. It was this tiny cottage garden complete with a small chicken coop and pen. Right in the middle of the city!
It was filled with lots of things I love…cobblestone walkways, pea gravel, used brick, boxwood hedges and white iceberg roses. Mixed in this luscious setting they had a few garden items for sale like this terracotta cloche and wagon. It was sooo charming!
They told us that a family brings their children everyday to take care of the 3 Buff Orpington hens that live in the coop. Can you believe that? EVERYDAY. Wow. The children sell the eggs to help pay for the feed and such. Talk about teaching your children about urban farming.
Here’s a shot of the pen and how it’s attached to the coop. I really want to expand my garden that surrounds our coop. I think it needs to be more cottagey. Yes, more cottagey is the answer.
