So, let’s talk about the fridge, shall we? I’ve wanted a glass door refrigerator for years. I’ve spent countless hours searching online for every possible one I could find. They’ve been bookmarked, pinned, saved to my Evernote and Dropbox files…you name it, I’ve searched and saved the options. Anytime I’ve been on a shoot where the homeowner had one, I would ask numerous questions about whether they liked it, why they chose the one they did, and the most often asked one regarding the “tidyness” factor of having a glass front door. So I’ll show you what I love about the Sub Zero Pro 48 we chose and share my research with you at the end of the post.

We knew we wanted a counter depth refrigerator since it was going to be built into the floor to ceiling cabinets. Another factor was the scale. It’s 4ft wide and 7ft tall, which fit our wall space perfectly. We also loved the massive hinges and that the large handles matched our Wolf range.

It has a dual refrigeration system, which is why you see two temperature settings in the photo above. The one on the right is for the two lower drawers, and the one on the left is for the top glass door portion. The freezer has it’s own temperature display as well.

In the photo below left, you can see the two smaller pull out drawers that can go from the refrigerator straight to the oven. I imagine this would be handy if you’re making a large lasagna for a party, but we just use them for deli meat and cheeses. The second photo shows the top drawer with a sliding glass door. It has great moveable compartments to accommodate a variety of items. The lower drawer is where I keep the “ugly” stuff like leftovers and things we don’t use everyday.

I didn’t take photos of all the freezer drawers, but you can see the interior and shelves are stainless. We store meat in the second drawer and the bottom drawer is the ice machine.

I have a routine of turning the refrigerator light off before I go to bed, and then on again in the morning. Although it would probably make a pretty night light for midnight snacks. I keep the top shelf shallow for wine bottles. I need to pick up something to keep them from rolling around. Or maybe The Man can make a little wine rack. We’ll see.

Here are other options I considered…

  • Monogram Glass Door – It’s a beautiful refrigerator but it was too narrow for our space. It would mean having to install two units, which in turn, make it too wide. But it’s a beauty.
  • Frigidaire Commercial – This is the lowest price one I found but it had drawbacks. It isn’t counter depth so it would protrude out into the room. It’s a refrigerator only so that would mean purchasing a freezer. And it seemed more commercial with the full glass door and wheels.
  • True Glass Door Refrigerators – There were a wide range of options, but again they were refrigeration only. You can see how my friend and fellow chicken lover Karen built hers in here.

So after all that, here’s a couple notes…

  • Since our refrigerator was on the very spendy side, we cut costs in the kitchen by not installing things like warming drawers, wine coolers, under counter refrigerator drawers, bar sinks, etc.
  • It runs very quietly. In fact, I hardly ever hear it with the exception of when it drops ice.
  • We used and recommend a Factory Certified Installer. It includes an extra year warranty.
  • Yes, I like looking at the stuff in the fridge. No, it doesn’t bother me if it gets messy. Yes, I purposely buy pretty bottles and jars. It’s my thing people, don’t make fun of me. 😉

Please let me know if you have any questions! I’ll do my best to answer them. I know when I was researching how helpful it was to find others who had been there. Or maybe you just want to say Hello..that works too!

I think I’ve wanted one for maybe 12 years now…… I am getting close to convincing my husband, but now I don’t think our spot is big enough. 🙁 I love yours Heather, I guess I will just drool over yours when I need a fix 🙂 xoxo

    • Heather Bullard

Hi Melaine! The Monogram is narrower than ours and would be great for smaller spaces. It’s so pretty too! You should look into it. Hope all is well…I’m guessing it’s much, much cooler in WA than it is here. Lucky you, for that beautiful fall weather. xo, H

Gorgeous! My fridge is not even glass doored but I’m always buying “pretty” things for it so it will be a treat for my eyes when I open it. So glad to know I’m not the only one who does that! Ha! Your kitchen is stunning. 🙂

    • Heather Bullard

Diana, you are my people…welcome to the club! And don’t you agree, TJ’s has the prettiest packaging of all the grocery stores combined?

  3. Kay

Ha @ purposefully buying pretty bottles + jars! I so do that, but wait, there’s more. (Almost) every single thing that comes into our house has to pass my ‘looks cool’ test! I was thinking about open shelving for our kitchen + decided that only the pretty stuff will be on display. Silly me, I quickly thought to myself — everything I have looks pretty! I like ‘the man’ phrase; I use ‘G.O.’ on my blog!

I have wanted a glass door fridge for 26 years now…still waiting since we are still renting. But I also love pretty things in my fridge…I will admit here that I don’t even keep mayo and mustard in their ‘store containers’ everything’s gets put into a pretty crock or basket. 🙂 (my mom is Judi Powers of the DanaPowers House…I think you have photographed her house, so now you know where I get it. )

    • Heather Bullard

Yes, of course! I adore your Mom. Looks like you got her dna for style and beauty! Now I want to get rid of the mayo jar even though it’s in the bottom drawer! lol 😉

      • Judi

Oh Heather thanks so much I adore you too! As to the glass front frig all i have to say is do not turn over the cooking to your husband if you want it to stay pretty and tidy. His favorite method of food storage is a zip loc bag, open the frig door and toss it in. My friends all crack up at the mess. I tidy it up once a week at the rest of the time it is chaos. Its a good thing he is the love of my life. My daughters husband will actually put things back where they go.

        • Heather Bullard

Haha! You two are the cutest couple! Mine loves to cook too, and for the most part puts stuff back in it’s place. He does know the bottom drawer is fair game for anything! Hope all is well! xo, H

    F A B U L O U S! Love how much info you have given us!
Even tho I don’t have a glass fridge (wish!) it does make things sweeter to have items
    dressed in fun containers!

    • Heather Bullard

I couldn’t agree more! I’m always on the hunt for pretties! 🙂

I just showed my husband and told him… “I want this one!” He laughed and asked me to ask you if it shows finger prints. We have a 3 year old and a 9 year old…. Lots of fingerprints. And that in itself has stopped us from getting stainless steel appliances.

    • Heather Bullard

Ha! I hear you! We do get smudges, but they wipe clean with a damp microfiber towel. Easy, peasy. 🙂

    • Heather Bullard

You’re welcome! Hope it can be of some help to you!

    Heather,
So pretty. I love pretty containers with our without see -thru doors on cabinets or the ‘fridge. I agree, Trader Joe’s really does have clever labeling.

I love some of the features of this refrigerator. Maybe if we ever have to redo a kitchen again in our life time. 🙂

Looks like we’re all suckers for pretty packaging! I’m guessing TJ’s knows just that! 😉

  8. Rita

I’m for one wouldn’t expect your ‘gorgeous fridge’ to not be styled for this post….just makes me want to save my pennies even more now…and there’s nothing more to say that it’s just beautiful.:)

    Rita

    • Heather Bullard

Aww, thanks Rita. I know what it’s like to save those pennies! 😉

  9. Wendy A

Good for you, what a beautiful choice! This year I fulfilled my dream of a full size refrigerator and matching full size freezer and never regretted it. Everyone who comes into the house has to open the doors. We joke that it’s not a fridge and freezer, it’s a tourist attraction – so I buy pretty bottles too!

    • Heather Bullard

Oh, wow! With that much room…I bet every party is at your house! 🙂

  10. Caroline

    Hi there

Love this post especially since we are about to renovate entire house (help!!) and are busy doing research on all this kind of thing. I love the look of this fridge and think the glass door is fab! But, (there is always a but isn’t there) do you not find the freezer very narrow? We have three children and constantly freeze things like leftovers etc. I wonder how much that freezer could store? I’m all for buying fresh but compared to the fridge the freezer is relatively small.

How do you find it? Do you have children?

    • Heather Bullard

      Hi Caroline,
I find the freezer has plenty of room. There is a very large/deep drawer below that I didn’t show. It can store quite a bit. Also, the freezer photo looks narrow because of how I shot and cropped it. My suggestion would be to go look at one at a showroom. That way you can see if it best meets your family’s needs.
Best of luck with your renovation! 🙂

LOVE my glass front fridge. Like really love it. It doesn’t even bother me if it’s a mess inside. It’s just proof that I actually cook. But I’m not opposed to having a big bowl of cherries in there every once in a while. ~ karen!
