Library Ladders

I've had a long standing love affair with rolling library ladders. This one belongs to my friend Judi Powers. Isn't it amazing? I couldn't resist taking a quick photo the last time I was visiting. I just love how tall those bookcases are and how they're perfect next to the large window.
We have very high ceilings that would accomodate just such a design and I've been bookmarking places to buy library ladders like here, here and here. And even better the supply kits to make one for yourself. I think The Man could do this. If not this house, most certainly the next!

Judi also has this charming built-in bookcase in her kitchen. It's such a great use of space and so handy for all those yummy cookbooks!

I agree… I have a thingy for ladders also! I like antique apple-picking ladders & old barn/loft ladders too. They’re so much fun to incorporate into the home decor!

Love library ladders. But now I read all my b ooks on my ipad, so will I ever own enough “real” books to make a library like this? Hopefully someday πŸ™‚

Does everyone own a copy of the Joy of Cooking? Wonderful ladder!

Gorgeous pics of Judi’s home….but I wouldnt have doubted that her home is amazing – the Dana Powers house and Barn are lovely.
She has an eye for vintage and antiques and her ladder is no exception.
The wood and hardware of antique ladders just cannot be replicated.
    Good luck on your quest!

I have a “thing” for most libraries. There is something about the shelves filled with books and interesting items that always draws my attention. I really like both book cases you’re sharing! Thank you.

Rolling ladders like the ones in old libaries are the best! I have always wanted to climb one and then wizz off going round the “rail” at high speed.

I have never seen an angled ladder like that. I love it! Thanks for the sources. We fully intend to install a library ladder in our upstairs landing some day.

That rolling library ladder suits in your room, Judi. I love your mini library. How I wish I have that one also in our house. I’ve been dreaming to have a mini library for my kids. Hope we can make it this year. And your built-in bookcase in your kitchen is such a cutie. It’s very organized. It adds beauty to your kitchen. Great planning, Judi. More power!

Where did this particular ladder come from?! I’ve seen kits, but I need know that is designed just like the one shown in the photo. Where may I find it. Thank you ever so much. – Robert
