Easter Decor

Eascoll2
Have you started decorating for Easter/Spring? I couldn't sleep last night and decided that 12:46am was a good time to start. So I pulled out an old divided box and filled a few compartments with straw, eggs and my favorite concrete chicks.

Then, in the dark of night, I went out to the garden in my jammies to gather some flowers. The grass was cold and really wet so I quickly picked whatever was blooming….the snowballs and Graham Thomas roses.

I came back in, nestled the flowers in a few blue bottles and waited for the sun to come up!

How about you…do you ever get the urge to decorate at ridiculous hours?

Heather, I adore your concrete chickens. You sound just like me. I can pick the weirdest times to decorate. Your decorations are lovely and I love the roses…..so pretty.

Oh so beautiful! Next time I have a bout of insomnia…I know what I’ll be doing;)

  6. MorningT

You are something else Heather….I couldn’t pull something so perfect together in broad daylight and fully clothed! Ha.

Love your Easter decorations. Especially the little chickens! I get up at all hours of the night. i will suddenly sit up in bed with an idea and off I go.. Sometimes I’ll climb back in bed in the morning for a few hrs of sleep. I think those of us who do not sleep at night need a button on our computers or Iphones, so that if someone we know is up, we can chat. thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment.

Your decorating is always so beautiful & you even do a great job picking flowers in the dark 🙂
I’ve been known to stay up until the wee hours to get one vignette perfect otherwise I can’t sleep.

  11. KarenSue

You crazy girl! Just glad to know there are others out there.
I’m just starting to decorate for spring and will be using this for inspiration.
On another note…will you be at Farm Chicks? I bought a bird cage from you last year and my husband took it to the green mall(dump)! So I need to replace it. That should teach him, if he does it again I will buy another one. He’s just a stinker.. Hope to see you there!

Heather, I want to get up in the middle of the night……and come over to your house and nab those concrete chickens. That’s what I wanna do! LOVE your little box you turned into chicken nest. If I can find me some chicken I’m going to make a similar arrangement. Thanks for sharing.

  13. Kat

I love your Easter arrangement, and yes I’ve been known to start decorating or cleaning in the wee hours of the morning. I’m a night owl after all, so it makes perfect sense to me, plus it’s nice and quiet then. Your vintage chicks are so sweet.
    Kat 🙂

Lovely! I especially like the little vase for the white rose. I have one almost identical that was my great-grandmothers and I use it all the time for little treasures that my girls bring in from outside – a daffodil, dandelion, or some other tiny wildflower bouquet they find. It sits in my window sill above the sink so I can see it often.

  15. Wendy in Kennewick

Yes, I’ve been know to clean and condition our leather furniture in the middle of the night. I’ve been collecting glass cloches of all sizes. They are sitting atop silver trays and have them filled with various bunnies vignettes for Spring.

  16. Lorrie

Oh brrr. I decorate only in my mind when I can’t sleep. I’m too cozy and warm to get out of bed and freeze my tootsies. But I love the idea of going out into the garden in the middle of the night.
And your middle of the night decor is charming. I’m afraid mine would look like a nightmare!

  17. angela

You do great work in the wee hours! When my sweetie had to work nights a couple of years ago, I got so much more done because I am a night owl. I got more playing and housework done then. I also shopped at night…I shopped the stores that close at 8:00 first and usually close Target down at 10:00. The nice man at the door of WalMart asked why in the world I was out at nearly midnight!!

  18. ~ ~Ahrisha~ ~

Hi Heather, Yes I have done the same in the wee hours. Women and insomnia, hormones yes? Your work is lovely. Please tell me that those roses are real and that Graham Thomas will grow in Pennsylvania. They are remarkable!

    Hello
That happens to me all the time. I do my best thinking after midnight. I have an 8yo and 14month old. It gets quiet then and I have a moment to myself. I sometimes sit with a cup of tea and read blog sites, get caught up on emails, and I decorate too. Thanks for the post. I am new and became interested in your site bc I am becoming an urban gardener, and googled French Chicken Coops and yours came up. I fell in love with it and the Blog site. My chicks are due to be delivered on April 27. It’s almost like expecting kids…we as a family are so excited. I hope we make good parents. Have a great day all.

  20. linda woodward

HI Heather, Love…Love your display. So sweet. The chicks are adorable. I got a concrete rabbit the other day. It’s a little over 2 ft. tall. Not vintage but looks real cute on my kitchen island. If you get a chance check it out and my garden with our chickens on fb. Linda miller woodward. After Easter I will move the rabbit to my veg. garden. I love your blog and fb page. I want to be you when I grow up. lol I decorate a lot in the middle of the night too. Enjoy everything you do,
    keep it coming. <3 <3 <3

  21. Lei

I get most of my inspiration at night!!! Love how you put your little collection together!

  22. Jenn

I too lie awake and my mind races about decorating! It is truly a sickness 😉
My best ideas come between midnight and 4 AM! Glad to know I’m not a total nut job 🙂

  23. Elizabeth

I am laughing right now,as I read your post.
At 7:00 this morning, in my jammies. I was picking
grape hyacinths. My neighbors must think I’m crazy!
I’m glad, I’m not the only one that gets inspiration at the crack of dawn. Ha, Ha! Read my post 🙂
    xxx Liz
Ps. My Jammies are light blue, yours?

  24. angela from NJ

I love the fact that you do the same thing as me, even in the dark of the night…if something needs to be done, and it’s one my mind, and I’m not tired, well I do my ‘best’ work in those hours….except I’m in NJ, so I’d have to wait a bit more into our spring to be mosey-ing outside at that time!! love your posts and great inspirations…thank you!

  25. angela from NJ

sorry, that was supposed to be ON my mind…I typed to fast!!!

  26. June

Your midnight decorating sure is beautiful Heather! I really love those chickies.

  27. Sylvia

You’re obviously not alone. Look at us!!!
Why is it that I also get the crazyest most inspiring ideas in the middle of the night?! I wake up and tip-toe to my computer to write a quick blog post or write down my thoughts in the dark. I have the Evernote app on my phone so I even capture quick thoughts right in the middle of meetings, watching a movie and/or buying groceries for goodness sakes! 🙂

  28. pamq

No, I don’t decorate in the middle of the night.
But I am often awake and reading or knitting.
    Or eating.
Perhaps decorating would be a better idea…..

  29. Florence Muma

Oh my I have been there before, one night getting out of bed and just going to town on a quilt I was making, better to do that than toss and turn. Love your breath of spring. Happy Easter to you. Florence

  30. Marcy

You have terrific style, but how wonderful to be able to grab flowers and eggs from the backyard! It looks amazing. I featured your site at stylesson.com today.

  31. Jamie

I have thoughts, ideas and urges at all hours, but usually find the season/holiday/event suddenly arrives when I wasn’t looking so decorating doesn’t actually get done. But it sure is pretty in my head! Kudos to you getting it done, at any hour. = )

  32. cathy

i “decorate” instead of counting sheep. and yes, i’ve been known to slip downstairs and do some putzing and fluffing in the wee hours. i love your laundry room, too! ours is the exact same size from the looks of your photos. a perfect size!

  33. Pamela Anthony

Absolutely adore ALL that you do… & definitely YES, on those crazy hours of can’t sleep due to an idea that JUST has to be done… LOL… the world of creativeness!
    Hugs from Kentucky… Pamela

  34. Susan

i’ve never decorated in the middle of the night but it would be kind of fun! i love your decor, so pretty! i cannot wait til some flowers bloom here. it’s so nice to be able to go out to the yard and cut some even if it’s in the dark 🙂 enjoy your weekend! susan

  35. karen

All the time! I also like to create art in the middle of the night. I always like to wake up to my nighttime adventures to see how they turned out and look in the light!
I love your little display! karen…

  36. Susan Hemann

When I saw your chickens, I went to my dollar store right away. I bought two little lambs and two doves. I’m going to antique mine and dress them up with vintage lace and jewelry.

  37. Marysol

It’s not easy to think ‘Spring,’ when it’s still snowing outside. However, your beautiful photos are certainly helping me battle the blahs.

  38. Curtains in My tree

Yes like right now it is 9:43 pm and I want to go out back and decorate a concrete basket.
I want to make myself an Easter basket and it’s just to late to be out back in the dark and it’s cold here another storm coming tomorrow (tornado)
    Janice

  39. Hollie Eastman

In the wee small (QUIET) hours of the morning seems to be when my most creative mind wakes up…I love the chicken…Happy Easter~

  40. Linda

Oh yes! You jsut never know when that inspiration will hit! Love the simple flowers, nest and chicken in the wooden tray.

  41. Cynthia And Co.

Some nights I find myself still up at 4:00 a.m. fussing with some idea that I think might pass if I don’t keep working on it. Love the photos. Your talent inspires us all!

  42. Anna

Oh my goodness, YES, I get the urge to decorate at odd hours! Sometimes – I’ll be lying in bed, nearly asleep, when I get a “great” idea for a craft… then it’s definitely a tough choice between sleep and creativity. Which is why I’ve made it a habit of keeping my “idea journal” next to my bed 🙂
