Entryway Mirror

Heather Bullard Mirror Entry 2

You may recall me mentioning here, that I bought an antique camel wagon wheel that had been made into a mirror. It’s not every day you run across one, so of course, I snapped it up. It’s enormous. Over 5 feet across. To get it home, it was strapped to the roof rack of my Mini Cooper while the edges hung off over the sides.Β Imagine that zipping down the freeway in traffic!

When I got it home, The Man didn’t even seem surprised (He’s used to my shenanigans) and actually loved the mirror. We had a lot of laughs about whether we should clean off some of the “patina” (if you know what I mean). But as you can see below, we decided to keep it as found.

Since it was so large and heavy, he made custom iron brackets to hang it up in the entry. I think it’s the perfect size and shape for this room. The scale and texture add drama and create a strong focal point to an otherwise simple space.

I bought the antique kilim rug at Sourced Collective in Laguna Beach. Right now, it’s the most colorful item in our home. Not sure if it will stay here in the entry, or be moved to the studio. Still trying to get used to the color.

In other news, I’m completely infatuated with eucalyptus. The last three trips to the flower shop involved bringing bundles of them home instead of flowers. I love their neutral hint of color and silvery leaves. My favorites are Silver Dollar and Seeded. Although eucalyptus is not new to me, it’s like I’ve discovered it for the first time and I’m relishing my crush.

I may be bouncing around a bit on the Grove House posts.
Since we are essentially living in it now, it’s hard to go back and write everything chronologically. Having no internet access for months put me a bit behind. I hope you don’t mind the zig zagging as I try to catch up on the details.

Between posts you can find me on Instagram (heatherbullard) sharing the little things in life.

Gorgeous entry! If you can’t get used to the rug, I’d be happy to take it off your hands πŸ™‚

Aww, thank you Pam. But there’s still a bunch of boxes and unfinished rooms. πŸ˜‰ Reality.

    Hi there,
That mirror is amazing! I really love the aqua glass bottles – I’ve been collecting them for my dream beach house. Could you share where you found yours, please?
    Thanks!

    • Heather Bullard

Thanks! I bought the antique pickling jars from a company that used to ship in containers from Hungary, Romania and other parts of Europe. He has since stopped doing container sales. πŸ™

I’ve seen knock-offs at PB, Target and HomeGoods. If you’re in SoCal..I’ve seen authentic ones on occasion at the Rose Bowl and Long Beach flea markets. Hope this helps!

    • Heather Bullard

Thank you, Karen. I plan on sharing more! The kitchen’s not quite finished. I’ll be sure to post it when we’re done with all the little details. Appreciate that you took the time to say hello!

I love the mirror, the rug, the industrial-style cabinet! It all looks great together. And those pale aqua glass bottles are wonderful.

    • Heather Bullard

It changes with the seasons, but for now, seashells. With summer nearing the end…I’ll probably change them out for pinecones or branches. It’s usually something from nature.

I’m thrilled to see these shares from Grove House! Beautiful, beautiful. Hope to see a feature on the lighting you chose, hint hint. πŸ˜‰

    • Heather Bullard

Will do! I’m still searching for a few pieces (laundry room, master bath, library). Hoping I find them soon so I can replace the ugly screw in lightbulbs I’m using for fillers! πŸ˜‰

    • Heather Bullard

I bought it years ago…haven’t seen another since. It was from a company that ships in containers from abroad. Sorry I can’t be more help on that one…wish I could!

I’m having such a hard time finding the right size rug for my entryway. Yours looks perfect. Do you know the dimensions?

    • Heather Bullard

I’d recommend marking out the spot in your entry with painters tape. It will help you visualize the size needed for your space. I measured out all our rug areas and kept the dimension notes in my iphone. Comes in handy when you’re out shopping!

Heather, the mirror is incredible! I got a smile from picturing it zipping down the freeway πŸ™‚ The combination of the wood mirror with the industrial style cabinet is such a beautiful backdrop for your pretty seasonal vignettes. Looking forward to catching up on the Grove House posts!
