Recent Finds
I’ve been on the hunt for furniture and rugs for the new place but haven’t had much luck lately. I better get on it, or we’re going to move in without a bed, sofa, or dining table, among others. Of course, all is not lost, seems I’m always able to find a little something.ย I picked up this mortar and pestle while out “poppin tags” with my sister. I loved the pale color and cracks in the bowl. You just can’t beat patina.
It set me back a whole $2.99. I could have gotten it for half-off if I had a coupon.
Drats. There goes a buck fifty.
At an antique store, I found a set of 12, sterling soup spoons with a monogrammed “B”.
It’s not every day you come across a dozen with your initial. Had to have them.
It’s been a while since I’ve taken any photos with a real camera. I’ve been relying heavily on my iPhone. Maybe too much. It felt good to be behind the lens again, shooting my finds just for fun. Working with some pretty light and a few trusty props. And I remembered how much I loved it.
Have you picked up any great antique or thrift store scores lately?
Between posts you can find me on Instagram (heatherbullard) sharing the little things in life.

Such beautiful photos of wonderful finds! Those spoons are amazing! I love the monogram with the little wreath around it! I’d be giddy finding something like that!
I thought the wreaths were sweet as well. Now to find a yummy soup recipe! Maybe I’ll use them for Easter dinner.
Beautiful shots and I love the wood mortar and pestle. I have a collection of them but no wood. Must keep on the lookout.
I’ve been looking for an old marble mortar but can only find the small ones. I’d love one of those large unpolished beauties! The hunt continues….
Ooo….I love those spoons! Nice find for sure.
Thanks, Rita! I was so happy to find an initialed set.
i have been on the lookout for a vintage mortar and pestle for a while without spending the big bucks….you found a gem. i am also always attracted to silverware so to find some with your initial i can see why you had to have them.
you mentioned you are looking for rugs…i am on the search for the perfect eat~in kitchen rug…i have bought so many that haven’t worked. when you find one let us see it, i am just so underwhelmed with what’s out there.
like seeing your lens photos on this one.
Thank you, Marmee. I was nice to be behind the lens. I didn’t realize that I missed it.
Will keep you posted on the rug search. I agree, it can be tricky to find the perfect one!
I love finding the unexpected! Lovely Photos!
Me too! Thanks, Julie. ๐

Aw, thank you Pam. So sweet of you. ๐
Heather, I need only go out to my garage or barn, closets, etc. to find things I’ve stored away. I have too much stuff, though I thought I’d never say it. Trying to give it away. Wish I had all the money I’ve spent instead.
Ha! I completely understand. I’ve been weeding through all of my things, keeping what’s important and what’s not. It’s a bit hard being in the prop styling business, letting go of stuff, but somehow I’m at a stage in life where I feel it’s ok to give it away, sell, or donate.
Hi Heather, how lucky to find the spoons with the perfect letter. Your finds are beautifully styled, as always. Pleasure to browse.
I just found a large and fantastic copper colander for just $4. Lucky me.
Have a nice day,
Lisa
Oooh, copper is so beautiful. Always reminds me of French food. Whether it be sauces, fish, or pastries and confections. You definitely scored on the colander!
Love seeing your recent finds. The mortar and pestle is reminding me of a wooden one I scored last summer at a yard sale. Didn’t think I would have use for it so planned to re-sell it. But, you’ve got me rethinking that now. Two weeks ago I found a lovely tall green Shawnee vase in perfect condition at Goodwill…….even got the senior discount (made it $2.40) and my pink roses this summer will look beautiful in it. Happy treasure hunting.
Marie
Definitely think pink roses in a green Shawnee vase would be gorgeous! And what a deal for you, $2.40!
Beautiful finds, Heather! The spoons are wonderful! I’d have grabbed those instantly since we’re a “B” family as well. Recently I found several old player piano music scrolls in the dollar bin!! My friend and I grabbed each and every one of them. I also found two bird prints that were the same my mother had when I was a kid. She had given them away years ago, not knowing that I would want them. I was so happy to have found them again.
How serendipitous to find the prints! I suppose I should be grateful we weren’t shopping together when I found the spoons…struggle ensues. haha! ๐ Happy Hunting!
Hee hee. You’re probably right.
you find the best stuff! love the spoons!
Great finds! Love the silver pattern. It would look good even without the monogram. Is the name on the back of the handle?
What wonderful finds. I’ve never seen a wooden mortar and pestle. I love the soup spoons, my last name starts with a B as well…I must get out more.
Good luck finding the important, larger items on your wish list for the new house.
Karen
Beautiful photos, as always! Those spoons were a great find, obviously meant for you ๐ I’m sure it will be fun shopping the “necessities” for your new home!
I found a vintage chandelier at a thrift shop yesterday. It needs crystals, but a deal at 15 dollars!
Jeanette

Amazing photos. You are so talented and inspiring!
Don’t EVER stop getting behind your real camera. You make magic happen there! And what is about old wood and antique silver together? It’s got to be one of my favorite combos! That and anything with an antique French linen! Happy Spring to you!
