Happenings via Bullet Points

Purpflowr-102
Whew, what a week! Thank you for all the amazing support of Souvenir. It means so much to see that many of you have loved the first issue of the magazine. Thank you, thank you! Since it's been a whirlwind, I thought I'd catch up on a few random things via bullet points. I warn you…they're very scattered thoughts.

  • I slept about 4 hours the night before and after the launch. Have since recovered.
  • My daughter took me to the park for an impromptu snack to get me out of the office. It reminded me of when she was younger and we'd go after school. Loved every minute of it.
  • I went shopping for a few hours with my sister. Retail therapy can work wonders. I shared a phone pic of my BEST find on FB!

  • We went to buy some chicks at our local farm store only to find out they weren't getting any in until April 6th. You know where I'll be on April 6th.
  • I read this great post about a new chicken mama and her happy kids & hubby. Can't wait to follow along on their farmsteading adventure!
  • The nursery had some pretty posies which I photographed for you. The Man thinks that hyacinth stinks. Now they're banned to the patio.
  • My cupboards are bare. We're surviving on yogurt, toast and a few canned goods. Obviously need to fix this before we're down to crumbs.

  • My toenails are painted purple. Violet Dash to be exact. I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. Any of you have purple toes?
  • Bella has a new snuggly bed and it took her all of 2 seconds to get comfy. She's barely left it since we brought it home.
  • I'm working on a wedding book collaboration and need a local OC or Riverside wedding florist. Anyone? Recommendations? Found one!
  • I have some fun posts on California places to visit lined up this week. And no, none of them are theme parks. One happens to be very manly, man.
  • We're going to see The Hunger Games today. Will let you know!

You captured spring so perfectly in your pictures….and you are right what a week you have had. =)

  3. jan

I have purple toenails! I thought the color looked rather lavender-Easterish, but unfortunately I now know that it looks like my Grandmother’s toes…Hope yours is not this bad. lol!

  4. Denise Marie

You go Girl w/your purple toes!! I use to think in only pink & red but have loved purple, green, aqua & orange. lol

  5. Jamie

Go purple toes! Mine are currently deep purple (think eggplant, but a little redder), with tiny sparkles. I rarely rock the red, never pale pink, and usually steel grey, deep blue or green, a variety of purples, aquamarine, and often with a layer of glitter. LOVE your springy flowers, too. = )

  6. Meredith Welborn

My toes are painted a very similar shade. It is my new favorite color! Bold without screaming “LOOK AT ME.” 🙂

Hey purple toe people! Who knew there were others out there? I guess I’m gonna rock this color for a few more days! 🙂

Sooooooo a couple of questions. Did the basin already have a hole in the bottom? (love the anthropology at Victoria gardens). And 2) where do u get yr chicks, the place I usually get them in Pomona has no Karan’s or americanas this year?

  9. Tattered Tiques

Love these very “springy” pics. So pretty! Also, loved the latest Souviner!! It’s always a pleasure. Thanks for all the inspiration.

Your post is so colorful and fresh! Love your purple pansies in the decorative container. I need to find some faux “birdie eggs” somewhere for my spring decorating. Yours are beautiful! Any tips where to shop for some?!

    Hi Karen!
The basin did not have a drain hole but I have a marble guy that can drill that for me when I’m ready.
We bought all of our chicks from MyPetChicken.com but wanted just 2 more and thought we’d go to our local farm store. They don’t carry Maran’s or Americanas either. We’re getting a few Rhode Island Reds…they’re the best egg layers.
    Thanks! ~H

    Hi Debbie!
The pale blue eggs in the photos were purchased from Tracy Porters website but I believe it’s closed now. 🙁
Luckily, it’s the perfect time of year to find some since they’re practically displayed in every store. PB and Target both had pretty eggs.
    Happy Spring! ~H

Dear Heather ~ Thank you so much for the shopping tips! You are my first and best inspirational source for home decorating!

Thank you!!!! And duh why didn’t I think of a marble guy…..opens up all kinds of possibilities.

My mother used to say I was the result of her passionate purple toes! Yes I rock them and think of how much my parents loved each other. I know a really talented florist – Helen Tao. I don’t have examples of her work but she just did her own wedding and it was amazing-she had individual flowers suspended in lucite globes.
Contact her at info@helentao.com she will get back to you.

    Hi Heather,
I’ve been thinking about being daring with nail polish but so far, I’ve been a bit of a chicken. Purple toes would be so spring like.
Our youngest son is getting married in December and the florist we are using is amazing (we live in Irvine, California, Orange County). Her name is Laura Kilts, Magnolia Floral, 818-395-9527.
We saw the Hunger Games Friday night, it was great. I had not read the book but now I want to. I really liked the way the film was made, very entertaining without too much gore.
Finally, I love my issue of Souvenir magazine. Thank you.

I can’t wait to read your posts on places to visit in Cali! My parents live in Corona and we are going to visit this Saturday. They have been there five years now, but we are always looking for new and exciting places to check out when we come in. Also, I would love to know if you have any suggestions on good antique stores or flea markets in the area. Oh- and love the idea of purple toes! 🙂

  18. Heather Bullard

    Hi Ashlee,
I would hit the Orange Circle in the city of Orange. It’s just off the 22fwy..take the Chapman exit. There are a TON of great shops there.
For fleas, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena is the 2nd Sunday and the Long Beach Flea in LB is the 3rd Sunday. Both are great!
    Have fun in Cali! ~H

My toes are bright fuschia with easter eggs on them, and my nails match. Probably way too young of a look for a mid-50’s woman, but hey I will probably have them painted that color when I am in my 90’s. Don’t know of any florists, but I have a white dove release business and would love to offer my services (free of charge) in the Corona/Norco area if you need to photograph a dove release for the wedding book. I live in Norco (Horse Town USA). By the way it is a fun little town to visit:)

  20. Heather Bullard

Thanks Beverly…I found a florist! Appreciate the offer for the doves but the wedding book is more project based as opposed to real live weddings. Thanks again! ~H
