Farmers Market Morning
Do you frequent your local farmers market? In our city, population approximately 275,000 we have only one very small market on Friday mornings in the Sears parking lot. Glamorous, I know. But I have been trying to get in the habit of buying my produce on Fridays and supporting our local growers. Would you like to come along and see the market through my eyes (lens)?
Did you notice what I noticed? The earth, the soil, the pristine freshness of the vegetables? When I loaded these images on my computer they moved me even more than seeing them in person. Real food. From real farmers. Who planted, grew and harvested them by themselves. Not a single supermarket can replicate this no matter how hard they try. My produce came from a few miles away not an ocean and a continent away.
This is what I brought home and if you click on the photo to enlarge it you can see what I made or am planning on making with my bounty.
If you'd like to find a market in your area I suggest visiting Local Harvest, FarmersMarket or The Huffington Posts list of the Top Ten Farmers Markets. Maybe you can pile the kids in the car next weekend and show them where vegetables come from. Who knows…they may even want to eat them!

Beautiful. I can hardly wait for our Market season. What are the long purple veggies that you plan to roast?
Your pictures are fabulous. There is nothing like fresh produce, just harvested from the farm. Unfortunately our local farmers market, downtown Toronto, Canada, is only open in the summer. I long for summer when we can eat fruit and vegetables that actually taste like fruit and vegetables. Thank you for bringing back those mouth-watering memories.
I loved your farmer’s market pics. We have a fabulous market in Salt Lake City. There are artisans and crafters, specialty bread bakers, flower growers, street muscians, bands, it is amazing. I like to go early on Saturday mornings during the months that produce can be harvested in this mountain region. Thanks for such a “fresh” look at life. I can hardly wait until we can experience it again. Your photos were just what I needed. Debbie
Beautiful inspiration! The local farmers will be thanking you.
Happy day to you
Beautiful photos! Yummy fresh vegies and fruit. I can hardly wait for early summer when the markets start opening up here.
Looks great, makes me long for market season but it is just 15 degress here in PA this AM!
The asparagus photo is gorgeous!
This truly WAS a feast for the eyes on this cold Minnesota morning! Thanks SO much for sharing!
Yummy bounty Heather!!!!
Looks scrumptious! Here in the cold northeast, I have to wait until the end of June for our market to open and I can’t wait!
Beautiful! Nature offers us so many delightful healthy options..I was just at the farmers market yesterday and stocked up on goodies. The only way to ensure you are getting the freshest produce available. It’s all good. Please support your local farmers.
Heather, I love the photos youtake of warm and sunny southern California. Here in the Philadephia area it is about 15 degrees right now. The closet I am going to get to a farmers market is to get all bundled up and drive in the freezing cold to my local Whole Foods. Your post has inspired me to make a big pot of warm veggie soup.
A farmers market sounds really great about now. I used to live in Long Beach, CA and almost bought a house in Riverside before we moved to Nebraska. I will have to wait until summer to see the great produce and colors of a farmers market. Thanks for sharing!

I am so jealous over your fabulous weather. I do love spring when our farmers markets open. Right now we have 13″ of snow, 15 degrees and no way to even get to the grocery store!
Hi Heather, our farmers market are quite frequent around here, I have been buying banana peppers and sweet potatoes a lot lately, they are so yummy together. Your artichokes look so full and plump, I long for the California artichokes, the ones around here are tiny but still very good. Great photos!!!
Happy Day…
Sylvia
I’m so jealous..still wishing for spring here in the mid-west…15 degrees this morning!
H~ So glad to see you are feeling better. 🙂 The pictures are beautiful. Nothing will be growing in our frozen ground for quite some time so these pictures will have to keep me satisfied for the moment. Blessings my beautiful friend. Kimberly
Heather- I also go to the one in the Sears parking lot. I know what you mean about our Farmers market-It’s really dissapointing although no one would ever know with these pictures you took. They look gorgeous! 😉
Beautiful pictures…love the asparagus bunches in the round basin…there is nothing like fresh picked veggies or fruit!!
Absolutely beautiful Heather. I noticed the same thing as right away, the beautiful soil, still remaining on the lovely veggies. No paint chip or fabric sample can quite duplicate the colors either!
Oh thank you,
for the DELICIOUS PHOTOGRAPHY !
Here in Oregon, we’re having a mild winter, but not enough to be able to grow stuff like that yet! Guess that’s why I love to can stuff in the summer and fall. But you just gave me an increasing desire for spring!
All I can say is YUM (and I want some of those strawberries!)
Oh my! Oh my!
We are so far from summer here and farm fresh produce. Your pictures nearly made me gasp! I may just need to go organize my garden seeds for 2010! 😉 Enjoy your fresh salsa! {my fav}
Heather, I go to a farmers market that is over by the Mission Inn, I think on Saturdays? Its pretty awesome to buy from local growers, that is something I want to do for sure!
Thanks for the beautiful snapshots of mother nature. Our California rain has given our farmers, fruits from their labor.
Weather man says we have more rain coming.
I miss the farmers market, but have been inspired to go again, indeed.
Warmly,
Karla
Beautiful photos! I can’t wait for our local farmers markets to open this Spring.

All of those images are gorgeous, but the strawberries….they are mouth-watering!
Making my mouth water just looking at your blog. The only thing at the Farmer’s Market here are snow banks. The first fresh sweet, juicy peas won’t be out for at least 4 months!
I love farmers market. You are so lucky that you have it all year. Here in Oklahoma, because of the weather our farmers market goes from May-October. There is just something about going and seeing all the colors and knowing that they have been planted and nurtured for us to enjoy. If you are ever in Santa Fe from May-Sept. go to their farmers market. It is the most unbelievable market I have ever been to. The colors and produce that you cannot get just anywhere. Thanks Heather for sharing your market tour. I am jealous. I have to wait until May!
Just gorgeous! I think that farmer’s markets are one of the most beautiful sights ever. The colors & textures! I can’t wait until ours opens in late March.
PS–And, I see that the prices are a steal!!! I’m jealous.
You can even make a farmers market look stunning =)
Thanks for the links.
ahhhhhh…when you live in the snowy midwest…..you just can’t imagine how refreshing your photos were!
gorgeous photographs- lucky girl to have a farmers market close.
Oh my goodness, the asparagus has me drooling! Your pictures are lovely!

Oh, to be in California 🙂 Lucky you! We have a fabulous farmer’s market here in Boulder, CO but it won’t start up for another couple of months. Thanks for the photos of fresh green goodness.
hi
I love farmers markets, and you really bought it in front of my eyes ,THANKS for the lovely post…
I love our local Farmer’s market, but the produce is never displayed as well as in your lovely photos! Just gorgeous!
Heather,
Really only one in that fabulously rich land you have? I’m just a few miles north and am blessed with 4 CERTIFIED farmers markets, at least 2 not certified, Multiple fresh farmer stands 1 fully organic, 2 CSA’s you might want to find out if you have one near you I you can google it. that’s where the farmer boxes in a crate what is in season weekly for you to pick up. Isn’t there a bunch of u pick places in your spot? I have some sites if you need. LOVELY pictures! Yummy! GOOD FOR YOU. I thank you, my children and the earth thanks you.
warmly

ps any luck with a Dutch Door?
Oh, I am so jealous! I am in Iowa and it seems like it will be an eternity for us to see those beautiful fruits and veggies. Enjoy!
Megan
Too funny! I live in Orange and our farmer’s market is in the Sears parking lot too! You have some great ideas posted here. I just might have to take a drive to Sears next thursday!
Oh Heather! Thanks for the reminder that spring will be here soon. We were just dumped with 34inches of snow in Maryland…The most on record!!!! They are predicting that school will be out for the next few days….a good opportunity to pour through seed catalogs and start thinking about the summer garden with the girls.
I haven’t been by in a long time and just wanted to say “hi!” and I enjoy your blog. I need to visit the Farmer’s Market too. Everything looks so good.
My hubby is starting a small raised bed garden in our back yard for the first time in our lives…I can’t wait to see what we can grow.
