My Latest Obsession
Maybe it's the summer season or the fact that I've decided I can't live in an all white house because right now I am completely obsessed with blue glass. Love, love, love it. And the hint of color is just what's needed for my mainly neutral home.
One of my favorite European antique dealers recently got in a container shipment full of great finds and I scooped up as many of the antique pickling jars as I could get my hands on. Their large size makes them perfect to hold seashells, ribbons, buttons, rolls of twine. There are so many ways to use them.
I also bought all the Hungarian milk bottles he had left. I took a ton of them to Farm Chicks and sold every last one so I was glad to be able to buy the last half dozen or so he had. They make the perfect vase for large blooms.
One of my favorites was this extra large vinegar jar with it's unique top. The great shape makes it a stand out piece on it's own and I love it's simple beauty.
So what are you crushin' on right now? Any obsessions out there? Do tell…

Love Love Love the blue glass- I have light blue old ball jars around my home filled with everything from tea candles, to flowers, to coins-
So beautiful….I can’t seem to find them in my area…where do I look for some?
I am always on the hunt for old brass hose nozzles. They come in so many sizes. I love the “old garden” feel they give me. My collection is small, but growing!
Oh, let me grab my fan–I’m nearly swooning over those lovely blue jars. Lucky you to have so many of these beauties.
I have lots of obsessions; magazines, beads, chocolate, vintage rhinestone jewelry, chocolate, anything blue, vintage photos/tintypes, and did I say chocolate?
Something about the color of that glass paired with the shells and the hydrangeas is so scrumptious! I love it when they have those tiny bubbles embedded into the glass too. Thanks for the inspiration, your images are so dreamy! ~Lili
I am painting everything aqua blue with a touch of stain on top. Must be summer! Ciao
A previous inhabitant threw lots of Bombay Gin bottles (blue!) into the water, and I have been fishing them out – some of them have that wonderful iridescence from the salt. They are beautiful, but it makes it look as though I have been drinking for a long, long time…
oh…sigh…divine!! *love* the blue glass! my obsession…hhhmmm…don’t laugh…cows!!…can’t get enough!!
Wonderful blue glass….I,too have been collecting old glass jars…many with interesting latches on top…Pretty to look at and wonderful to fill with tiny treasures…

I love old blue glass, I’m pretty caught up on the antique mason jars, I keep trying to find the pale blue ones and end up getting the 1970’s turquoise ones but that ok cause I like those too. LOL. Thanks for sharing.
I adore that color…so soothing and just plain ol gorgeous!!!
Such wonderful photos….thanks for sharing!!
Heather, what is a
good price for a blue jar? I got aason jar filled with old buttons for ten bucks yesterday, and posted a pic on Twitter. There were enty of empty ones without lids for 10 each too…deal or not?
As always my vintage silver and old canning jars.
As I continue to unpack I fall in love with each piece all over a again.

I passed up some great blue glass jars like this at Canton last month. I was meaning to back to the booth because I didn’t want to carry it around…darn why did I do that!
I agree!! Blue glass is so summery and beautiful! What a great collection you have! They’re gorgeous!
Love them to, I was at a fleamarket some month ago here in Sweden, and there where lots and lots of beatiful bottles, for less then a dollar each, I bought 1!!!…. And the next time I went there, everyone was gone, how stupid can I get =)
So pretty! I think that since I live pretty close by, you should share your favorite European antique dealer’s name and address with me. 😉 I just bought several old Japanese Fishing Floats in these beautiful ocean colors for my summer jars and bottles. A few float in my fountain, too.
omgosh! i have that exact same vinegar jar! i have been wondering how i could find out what in the world it was and there you go….heather bullard tells me. awesome! i love glass and that pretty turquoisey blue is just to die for.
I’m starting to love the blue glass too. Your pictures are stunning and the flowers look so pretty in the blue.
My obsessions are many. Little chairs, tuffets, hotel silver, just to name a few.
hugs
Sissie
Gorgeous bottles!! I’m been obsessing over oil paintings without frames (stretched canvases. LOVE them! Look everywhere for them….can’t get enough of them!!! YOU know!!!
Anything to go in the garden as art is where it’s at for me right now. At Farm Chicks I bought a lot of rusty iron work to use in the beds. I just love rust!
I <3 blue glass, too! And since I'm planning a beach themed wedding for late August, I have been trying to figure out ways to get my hands on a BUNCH of these before then! So have you seen where you can take regular glass and color it to look like this blue glass? It really does work and looks pretty much like the real thing! Check here to see what I mean:

Okay, 1/2 of my previous comment was lost there! But I was saying that I do love blue glass – and the link is showing a way where you can make your own out of plain glass…

hi heather,
these are beautiful. i love blues and these catch the light so wonderfully. i went through a little crush with the oxidized lavender-hued bottles. love when pale blues and lavenders are paired, like sea and sky.
what am i crushing on? i’d say metal bistro chairs. i keep wondering if i should put my indoor chairs outside to get all rusted up. thoughts?
happy almost-july!

I love these bottles! I am obsessed with vintage french postcards & stamps and anything turquoise!
very pretty – and having an all white home allows these pretty colours to really burst!
I am on the hunt for religious items, string/twine/etc, silverware and old swirly pottery among other things.
Of course I would not turn down a blue jar….
Hi Heather~
Love your collection of blue glass … and you sure know how to bring out it’s full potential!
I think I instantly crush on just about anything I see in large numbers, whole collections, etc. … groups of antique books, a jar full of white buttons, a row of flower frogs …. you get the picture.
One thing that always makes me swoon is old hardware … the details are amazing … however, most the time it’s attached to a large piece of furniture, which makes it hard to bring every piece home. {probably a good thing!}
I did a small post today with a few Pics of my favorites:

Here’s a question for you … how would you display a collection of hardware?? any suggestions?
Thanks for always being incredible ; )

Sometimes it just takes, that ‘hint of colour’ in an all white home to make it look right.
loving the blue glass

What gorgeous photo’s, such beautiful inspiration!
The colour contrasts are just perfect.
Vintage lace, doilies, crochet – bought a big plastic storage box chocked full of these items for $10.00 at a trade days show. Have spent hours sorting and admiring the beautiful pieces. Some were too old or worn to use, so I salvaged what I could and made a coverlet for my hammock with the handiwork laces, doilies hanging from both sides – it’s striking!!
Really nice bottles, I have some too 🙂

…so sparkly fresh!…..can you imagine getting your pantry stocked with food in those containers!…I have a few tiny juice boottles in that very colour….perfect for single blooms!…Thanks for always inspiring!

Your blue bottles are just beautiful !! I love that color because it reminds me of the seashore which I miss like crazy !!

LOVE the blue glass w/ the pink flowers! sooooo soft! FYI I just posted my next FREE BLOG GIVEAWAY! 🙂 SKV6.BLOGSPOT.COM
Love all your blue glass… I have a collection of the old blue mason jars…Lezlee
i love that it’s such a soft, pale blue! so pretty with the pink flower!
I love vintage looking bottles period. Esp love the way your blue glass contrasts with the pink hydrangeas. I am also loving the way the shells look in them…

Wow…those bottles are beautiful!
Heather…I love blue bottles too and the rare lavender ones. Right now I’m into seashells – making cuff bracelets and embellishing them with the shells and filling bowls with them. I can’t resist shells! And sadly…I no longer live near the ocean….But, here we have fossils everywhere! So I collect rocks filled with those because they are so textural and interesting!
Happy blue bottle collecting!
Diane
Hi Heather –
Clear blue glass is an all time favorite of mine.
In an effort to “beach up” my creative space, I’ve put my collection of blue bottles to work in the studio.

Your Hungarian milk bottles are making me swoon!
🙂 Genevieve
Any neutral space would benefit from your gorgeous hydrangeas in blue glass vases! I think they’re fabulous!
Not only is the blue glass fantastic, but so are the shells and hydrangeas inside of it! I am a big fan of bringing out the shells in the summer time.
LOVE this post. I have those blue ball jars all over my house. The color is so fantastic. You have found some great ones!
What am I crushing on? More like, what am I NOT crushing on! Right now, it’s grain sacks (off etsy) for my guest bath. I’m going to bundle them up with twine or old ribbon, and put them inside a huge old, metal basket that used to store chicken feed.
That’s this week. Next week, who knows?
Love your blog, as always!
Amy
