Country Living Guest House
A few months ago, I flew up to Oregon to style a guest house for Country Living. Trina, and her husband Mike of A Country Farmhouse, had restored a space over their garage into a charming retreat. It was a joy to work on this project…they have the most adorable twins and live in a magical, beautiful, part of Oregon.
To compliment the white space and warm woods, I kept the styling natural with simple flowers, wicker baskets, brass candlesticks, my own boots, and a welcoming breakfast table.
The story is in our current Feb 2013 White Issue…one of my favs! James Baigrie is the amazing photographer who worked with me on this shoot…his portfolio is stunning.
Trina will be sharing more about the work they did to the guest house on her blog in the near future, so be sure to pop on over to see more behind the scenes.
The dreamy white, fluffy bedding was from a wonderful local store:

Stop by if you're in the area. Their downtown is absolutely charming!
I still need to do a recap of my NYC trip (which was awesome!)…hopefully soon. I was in 4 states in Dec and I leave for Phoenix tomorrow so my life hasn't been in front of the computer much.
I have been on Instagram a lot. It just seems so much easier and I love seeing candid moments of peoples lives and the beauty that surrounds them. I hope to make a book of my IG's at the end of this year so I need to keep up with it…so it doesn't turn out to be a pamphlet! 🙂

So beautiful Heather! Love Oregon! Looking forward to hearing about your NYC trip. I’m less than an hour from the city – it’s a great place!
This is so serene and lovely…you did a great job.
I agree, this issue is one of my favorites too! Trina’s guest house is beautiful and I loved seeing them featured again in the magazine. Your styling is gorgeous and perfect as always!
It really came out lovely. I had seen it in the magazine and loved each story you’ve done and Trina and Mike.
Lovely work.

I loved the makeover!! I kept looking at Trina’s name in the issue, thinking it sounded familiar….it wasn’t until your post here that I realized, yes, I do know that name! and blog!! 🙂 Thank you! Such a beautiful reno. Hope you enjoyed your time here in Oregon. Hood River is such a cute quaint town. (too windy for me though!!) 😉
Thank you Dawn. Hope to get NYC up when I return from Phoenix. Appreciate you stopping by!
Thank you so much. 🙂
Thanks Mary Ann….happy belated new year!
Thanks Lee, Kathi and Melissa! It was such a wonderful space to work on…wish I could have stayed a few extra days! 🙂
You’ll love this issue…filled with beautiful white spaces with warmth and character!
Thanks Nicole!
I just spoke with her this morning and I know she’s planning on sharing lots more pics on her blog. They really did a beautiful job on the remodel. Enjoy!
Thanks Melinda! And thank you for being a Country Living reader! 🙂
Hood River was absolutely gorgeous when I was there. Guess I should be glad it wasn’t windy! The drive to and from the airport was breathtaking!
Beautiful interior. White is my favorite color and it fits well in a bedroom setting. We have a collection of Country Living Magazine here but I need to get this latest issue.
What a gorgeous and refreshing space with all that white, light and greenery! I wish I could duck in there today and chill for an hour with a glass of tea and some good music! I really love that (pine?) pedastal table!
Thanks for posting on your blog.
I grew up in Oregon (Eugene) and love visiting as much as I can. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Hood River! Love what you did for the guest house. All white decor is sure to counter the gray days of Oregon.
Oh, and BTW, I loved this issue of Country Living! Can’t get enough of it!
Heather, I just found out why you are going to be in Phoenix, so excited to meet you today! I will seem like a stalker when I meet you, and yeah, I kind of am a stalker. Might as well confess now. I’m happy our arctic blast has subsided and you’ll be treated to some really Arizona weather. Welcome!
Beautifully styled and great inspiration for me for the re-vamping of our loft space this year. Always a viewing pleasure!
Jennifer.
I absolutely love this house! It was a perfect choice for the start of a new year with the clean, white spaces. I’ve flipped through my copy several times in a row…just enjoying different details as I go. Well done to all!
I haven’t ventured into Instagram. Feeling a little over connected to technology as it is, so afraid it will be yet another magnetic pull!
Hi Heather. I blogged about our “meeting” – Kind of a big deal for me. 🙂
Wow! This is beautiful! I’m loving all the white mixed in with natural woods and gold. So inviting and cozy. Wonderfully done Heather, as always! I look forward to making a cup of tea and reading the whole artical. You are such a talented, inspiration to the rest of us. Thanks for that!
Julie
I loved the article but what pulled me in were your boots at the door. Where did you purchase them or what style are they? I need a pair for me.
~ Lisa ~
My boots are by Franco Sarto. I’ve had them for years and can’t seem to find them online anywhere. The most similar ones I can find are the Window Cuoio Leather here:
Scroll through their boots at the top to find it….

But they don’t have the harness straps like mine do and the color seems more orange. Sorry to not be of more help! I know what it’s like to try and source something you’re obsessed with! 😉
You’re the sweetest! I’m so glad we had the chance to meet and I hope you had fun at the sale. Wish my purchase would have fit in carry on. Now I have to wait…
See you soon! ~H
Thanks so much! I’m also inspired by many of you…like minds, you know? ~H
Thanks Delores! I loved every bit of Oregon! Gray days and all. 🙂
two of my favorite things…

Oh dear, these rooms have caused me to fall in love with white all over again! So gorgeous…calm and charming as heck!
Fabulous job!.
Heather-just beautiful- I love the classic clean whites mixed with touchs of color-the tufted settee-is just Perfect.

Off to follow you on instagram:)
This home is so beautiful! I love all the clean whites + simplicity. Inspires creativity and JOY 🙂
I love the little table and chairs where one can sit, read the paper, enjoy a nibble, and relax! The lantern overhead is perfect and a wonderful variation from what you normally see. And of course, that fireplace…. I’m in heaven!
Dear Heather
I would ask you to be kind to read the last post on my blog. The reason is that I also have found copies of your page on the blog I write about.
Sincerely Lene
Oh I read her post! I follow her blog! You are a great stylist! I am enjoying following you on Instagram!!
Such a beautiful post. Great combination between white and nature. Your design is really nice. Thanks for everything.
I love the picture of the shelf wall with the wide bottom shelves with a counter on top…we were planning a wall of bookshelves in our snug but now I’m thinking that something like that might actually work better, even if it wasn’t intended for a domestic project. Thank you for the inspiration!
I really appreciate this post. I’ve been looking all over for this! Thank goodness I found it on Bing. You have made my day! Thanks again!
