DIY: Coffee Table

Coftable
My sweet friend called me one day to tell me she was inside an old dusty cluttered barn digging out an antique wicker coop for me. Only someone who truly knows you would do something like that. I mean not everyone wants a dirty wicker coop, right? But she knew I would love it and of course, she was right!

At first I didn't know if I would use it indoors or not but after giving it some thought I decided to make it a coffee table for the family room. First thing I had to do was scrub the living daylights out of it! Then The Man built a frame out of angle iron and welded some casters to the bottom. My local glass shop custom fit the crooked piece with a tempered glass top. Now it has a rustic industrial look and is very functional for our family room!

What I love most about the crate are the original hand stamped graphics saying Made In Belgium and the rusty old metal spring latches and zinc corners. It gives it such character.

I also love the texture the piece gives to our mainly neutral room. For summer it's filled with books and a glass jar of white garden roses. FYI: To make your own "antique French" jar lightly sand/scuff apothecary labels and glue them to the front…voila instant antique!

Apparently the coop had been in that barn for 40+ years just waiting to be discovered. I feel like such a lucky girl to have friends who aren't afraid of mice and cobwebs because they sure do bring home the best stuff! Now my one of a kind coffee table has a fun story behind it instead of just saying…
"It's from Pottery Barn".

LOVE this ~ such a GREAT table (especially for us chicken fanciers)! I could have guessed it’d be lovely Serena who’d be sweet and kind enough to score this for you. What a treasure to have a friend like that!
I passed one up at my local vintage shop a few years ago…now I REALLY regret that.

It turned out beautifully. Love the rug it is sitting on! Is that a Pottery Barn find?

Wow, I love the base your husband built for the coop! I’ve found lots of chicken coops and turned them into coffee tables to sell in my shop but I never thought of having a base like that made!
Thanks for the inspiration! (You don’t mind if I copy your idea do you!!)

It takes a creative eye to spot a treasure like that…and an equally talented hand (and helpful man) to turn it into such a charming piece!

Ohhh I love it! I love a variety of textures in a room and that would be a perfect addition.

Very cool table! Your husband has awesome skills. My hubbie made our coffee table, but it certainly didn’t require welding…

I love this!!! If you ever decide you want to sell it, I wouldn’t mind taking it off your hands. 🙂
