NYC – Flea Marketing & More Shopping
It’s hard to visit any city and not try to hit the flea market. NYC would be no exception. A visit to the Garage was just what was needed. It’s located in a parking structure, which is kind of odd for this California girl, but I soon got used to the idea and set off to find a few treasures.
I didn’t buy this painting of a woman and sometimes wonder who she went home with. But I did bring home a couple of landscape paintings, a French pharmacy beaker and a antique brass star tree topper that will probably be making it’s debut in the pages of Country Living this year.
Another fun stop (and completely clutter free) was the Japanese store Muji. They have a large selection of paper goods and household items all with very clean, simple designs.
And a visit to Tinsel Trading was fun with it’s signature wall of vintage millinery flowers.
There was also a quick visit to this cute kitchen shop called Whisk. They had a great selection of unique tabletop and kitchenware items. And it’s owned by two locals from Brooklyn which makes it even better in my book.
Well, that’s going to round out the NYC shopping. I’m sure there were other places I’ve forgotten to share or didn’t take photos of (like the Etsy Pop-Up shop!) but for now….
It’s time we move onto the food!

I’ve loved all these posts about your trip to NY! Any suggestions for great finds in Chicago, either from you or your readers? Seeing these really makes me want to head away from the standard department stores.
Thanks! I’ve never been to Chicago, with the exception of hanging out in the airport. I’ve heard wonderful things about that city. Maybe someday!
And yes…I never shop any department stores or shops I have in my own hometown when I travel. It makes it more fun and rewarding to find new things!
Memory lane! 🙂
love those beautiful serving utensils!!
Now I am totally intrigued about the Etsy Pop-Up shop…
It was sponsored by Martha Stewart. She and her editors chose a selection of products from Etsy artisans. I believe the Pop-Up was open for about a month, and I happened to hit it on the final day…which lucky for me, included a live concert from a gospel choir! NYC has quite a few holiday pop-ups during Nov and Dec. Always fun to shop them!
Yes, I’ve been to the antique flea in NYC. They have great prints from very old books that you can buy the pages! Beautiful ones! A great place to get antique bangle bracelets. If I remember correctly, wear lots of layers of clothes, it is quite cold in there. Whisk is definitely a place full of eye candy for the cook!
You went to all my favorite places! Great photos. Of course you went to ABC and Fishes Eddy. Miss all this fun…
