Sherman Library & Gardens
The Sherman Library and Gardens is located on the Coast Hwy between Newport Beach and Laguna. It's actually nestled right in the middle of my favorite local seaside town, Corona del Mar. I can't tell you how many times I've cruised right past it. But recently, decided to make time to visit and was so glad I did!
They have a seasonal cafe offering French inspired California cuisine which is served outside on their beautiful patio. The library and gardens cover 2 acres and have several water fountain pools, an indoor tropical garden, a cactus and succulent garden, and a sweet garden shop to purchase plants, gifts or books. Their research library is filled with books pertaining to the history of the Pacific Southwest.
* Previously mention purple toes. Which are now painted coral. ;-)
There's a Starbucks a block down the road that is always completely packed, but this garden was so tranquill in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, it made me wonder why more people aren't there instead of a crowded coffee shop. Maybe it's the caffeine.
One of the best things about the Sherman Library and Gardens is that they encourage you to take photos! That's right, they welcome it! So it's a great place to practice shooting in natural light and what better subjects could there possibly be?

Looks lovely.
I am inhaling, and sighing happily.
Very, very awesome… what a great decision it was to stop. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, the succulent garden is amazing!
Heather,
I love visiting Sherman Gardens and forget to do that more often. It lowers my blood pressure to visit and have lunch there. Such a beautiful and serene setting.
Nice toes! 🙂
Karen
Wow, so many things to love here! 🙂
It looks beautiful! I’ll have to make a stop there, maybe I’ll send the link to my hubby as a little hint for a lunch date sometime 😉
I love Sherman Gardens, it is one of my favorite places!
thank you for that inside peek! i’ve always walked by that place and wondered what it was like. hop on over to crow bar afterward for a burger and duck fat fries, and you’ve got a perfect day!
I can’t tell you how many times I have driven by!!!! I have never gone in. Now I must. Thanks for the beautiful photos (I like the purple toes but mine are also coral right now, too). 🙂 Steph.
“library” and “gardens” : two of my favorite words ever! wonderful place and gorgeous photos! love that succulent wreath.
happy weekend, xo
Ok. I’ve got to know what you are using to take these amazing photos!!! Heather, they are so very, very beautiful and totally inspirational. Do you do any post production or just load as is. Brava, my dear!
What a little gem! Having grown up in SoCal, I was intrigued because I never knew of this small bit of heaven. So I used your link to find out more and was a bit disappointed to encounter a dismal dearth of photos on their website. It’s nice that they encourage you to take photos – but they’d do well to also encourage photographers to _share_ those photos with their webmaster. Thanks for sharing your’s, Heather – otherwise we’d really have no way of knowing about this pocket paradise in the midst of the greater Orange County metropolis.
Hi Heather,
When I saw this post it really made me homesick! I used to live on 430 Acacia, in Corona Del Mar, and prior to that on Bayside right next to the footbridge. My place on Acacia has since been razed and a new tall/skinny put in it’s place. It’s a shame as the original beach cottage was absolutely one in a million. Bigger is not always better. I have been to Sherman Gardens many times. In fact, a close family friend was married there. I remember how beautiful it was.
We now live in San Antonio and love it here too, but I do miss that special town. Thank you for the post!
