My Kitchen Corner

Shelf_low-101
It's been a long time (2 or 3 years) since I shared any photos of my kitchen. I suppose it's because I don't like to go over the same room again and again. Sometimes that can be a bit stale and boring for me. But on the flipside, I end up not sharing things for years. I think I need some balance…somewhere betweeen "one time only" and "overboard".

This little corner shelf is probably my favorite spot in my kitchen. It's near the large (and only) window where I keep a few plants and cut flowers. We use the shelf for our everyday dishes. It makes it very handy to just grab a cutting board and a plate or bowl for meal prep. I often change the vignette out with the seasons and right now, it's citrus season in California!

Many of you know about my obsession with bread boards. Some women collect shoes…me, bread boards. I've had them shipped to me from as far away as Belgium. It's a sickness I tell you.

I bought the wicker basket tray years ago from Pottery Barn. But I'm sure they still have similar ones available. I love the warmth and texture that wicker and wood can add to a space.

My old glass candy jar is from the Alameda Flea Market. I purchased it from one of my favorite dealers, Grenouille. They have the best finds! Probably much of the flatware is from them as well…and the cafe au lait bowls.
The art piece sitting next to the jar was a gift from the amazing Junk Girls. It's made from salvaged trumpet pieces and the top part is a clip to attach a note, postcard or quote. (Note to self: should have put one in before taking this photo!) The Junk Girls gave up corporate life to pursue making art. And they have the best sense of humor and wonderful spirit. Adore them!

The metal relief wall piece is actually a candle holder for the table. See how the flowers have openings for candlesticks? I think it makes for pretty wall art. 🙂

Most of my ironstone is from flea markets or antique shops. Hard to pass it up wherever I am!

I keep my shallots and garlic in a gravy boat. I love that it has an attached plate. The lid was missing when I bought it. Luckily, I also love a cast off piece without it's mate.

Shelf_low-104

Most of the utensils in the crock are mis-matched pieces. I keep jam spoons, butter knives and a few other utensils at the ready for making a quick breakfast of toast and tea or coffee.

I hope you liked visiting my favorite little corner. Some of you have been here before (3 years ago!) and to you…I'm sorry I didn't have you back sooner. Terrible manners! Thanks for sticking around all this time. And to those of you who are new…welcome. So glad you stopped by!

You’re a woman after my own heart Heather – been collecting ironstone (primarily white but a little bit of brown transfer ware is creeping in and I’m starting to lust after red too!)and all my breadboards are hidden away so I might just have to find a spot for them out of the closet! And I too noticed that lovely Canadian Maple Leaf! Is there a link to the past blogs on your kitchen for us newbies?

Hello Heather~what I love is how you’ve created a charming vignette while utilizing this space to it’s fullest. It can be difficult at times for me to find space for my kitchen necessities. I agree the metal relief is the perfect accent to your wall decor. As always…you have brought me inspiration.
    Sweet wishes,

What a lovely corner of your kitchen. I’ve never thought of having a cute corner, perhaps it would detract from the rest of the room – which I really want to change but can’t right now. Love that you use everything and don’t just have it on display. Some great inspiration, as always.x

  23. Veronica Roth

Really lovely. I find a lot of pleasure looking at arranged shelves or corners in my kitchen too. Do you switch things up? I get bored after a while and want to see different things. (Artist, lol)
