Making the March Cover!
I can’t tell you how excited I was to get the news that a home I had scouted, produced and styled made the March cover of Country Living! It was such a fun shoot to work on with Lisa Romerein, who shot the lovely photos. This issue is all about What’s Country Now, featuring the best of country style…and this home certainly fits the bill.
You will love reading about their kitchen filled with vintage appliances, colorful pottery, clever pantry storage and a farm to table lifestyle. Not to mention those amazing tree stump stools!
To celebrate, I’m giving away 5 copies of the March issue!
If you’d like to enter leave a comment answering the following question:
What’s Country Now for you?
I can’t wait to read your answers and see what speaks to you now in terms of living with and decorating in todays country style.
Winners will be announced Monday, Feb 13th.
Congratulations to the following winners:
R. Justus said: Country for me right now is embracing my wide plank pine floors which have gaps in them by chinking them with cotton cording instead of putting down new floors. Loving the contrast between the golden honey color with the off white cording! Sealing the cording to keep it that way!
Jenny said:Congrats! Well done! For me, I love the thrill of the hunt and re-using/re-purposing affordable vintage finds.!

Congratulations! What’s country for me right now is planning a cute little home for some hens in our backyard, getting our seeds started for our garden boxes and working on a new quilt for our master bedroom.
Cool! What’s country for me is mixing old treasures with new. I can’t live without my blue cannimg jars & antiques from family.
Country for me right now is remodeling a 100 year old farm house that we moved onto our property
Great question which made me pause for a moment to think and focus on it’s meaning. For me personally, it is blending inherited family pieces with my flea market finds to create a home in which family and friends are comfortable and at ease enough to enjoy life and create new memories.
Wonderful Cover! Country to ME, means vintage or used articles that have been cleaned up (wiped done) or repurposed to coordinate with the new owner’s design preference or style.
Country for me is inspired by a look that makes me smile. It can be a large black chalkboard on a kitchen wall with every changing inspirational thoughts, clean white enamel lids arranged as artwork on the wall near the black enamel gas stove, or lovely neutral pitchers, platters, cake stands, mugs, dishes in the open shelved white cupboards. A ceramic berry-pink pitcher filled with spring flowers alone on a pale green vanity is a country touch.
Congratulations on the cover, Heather…so deserved!
Congrats congrats congrats how exciting! I can’t wait for my copy to arrive in the mail. Country now to me is a home that feels inviting and lived in. Using country items but with a twist (such as antlers used as candle holders)
Hmmm, country to me is a mix of the traditional idea of country with the farmhouse with the natural elements you expect, but then maybe now a surprise of some modern design such as modern light fixtures or maybe a modern stencil on the wall. thanks for a chance to win!
Country to me means mixing old and new … making my home a haven for my family … homemade … lots of love.
Whats Country Now for me is a way to enhance my creativity..I like different things and there are so many new and creative ideas that it is just unbelievable….I like to see things that you do not ordinarily see….and that is what Country Now does….It opens my mind up to a whole new world of possibilities instead of the ordinary….I guess you can say Country Now is Extraordinary!!!!!!
I love this magazine! Whats country for me right now is we are building our house ourselves and the magazine has so many amazing ideas!
Country for me now is…finish styling my true Ranch Style home with Native American and Cowboy Accents. Congrats on the cover…looks great. Love the look too!!
my country is my wooden table mixed withcontemperary chairs and rustic accessarys plan and simple yet bold and noticeable
Country now to me… bringing the outside in… using natural wood and stone to decorate, just like on the cover with the tree trunk seats – LOVE IT!! Also, using re-purposed items for function, such as the old doorknobs from my 1916 home being used as coat hooks… keeping the wonderful old things with new purposes.
Congratulations girlie – what a gorgeous shot!
For me, country now is creating a home that is welcoming and comfortable. With spring approaching, we try to create both indoor and outdoor spaces for our friends and family~
xx
Love it! Country is relaxed and comfortable, natural and useful, worn and warm. White dishes and furniture and things you love that tell a story,it is never stuffy or formal. Thanks for the chance to win!
Loving it!!! Congratulations it looks great :)) Country has ALWAYS meant to me…a cozy, warm home filled with all the treasures you absolutely LOVE!!!
Congratulations on your cover! Country now for me is blending new and old together to create a unique and personal space for our family. I love using industrial and architectural elements throughout our home.
Transitioning over the years from that “cutesy country” in the 90s & revamping some of our existing big pieces has been a blast. I’ve also came to love antique & thrift store shopping to add that special touch to our home. I have what I call a simple country look now with cleaner lines & more open-ness!
Country, for me is hope
Country magazine introduces me to so many wonderful beautiful paragraphs and photographs of places, recipes, artwork of many people. Plus I love your magazine…Cheers and thank you~Leonor
Congrats Heather! Beautiful cover! Country to me is creating “new” furniture pieces with paint, creating a coordinated yet mismatched room, it’s the farm table my husband is currently building and it’s the direction I see my business going. I see a huge interest in the distressed country pieces we create for homes and weddings. So exciting! And your blog has been a huge inspiration for many years. Thank you!
Country for me is always light hearted and full of whimsy, color and new uses for old things. Right now I am blending great 19th century farm furniture with mid-century funky toys and smalls. Country antiques make a good marriage with fifties silliness and the two balance each other out nicely.
Congratulations on you cover. Country is something with character. A piece or a setting that can tell a story – that has a history. It is a glass of lemonade and a warm summer night. I love country.
Congratulations on a beautiful cover.
What’s Country Now for me?
Transitioning from Sunny Florida Life to Country Life in Alabama. I’m finding just how much I love “old things” and the look of a Country Home. It’s a whole new view of my creativity.
Congratulations!
Country Now, here?
It would have to be merging our urban lives with my chicken interests, and making it all mesh… *minus the mess!*
Ironstone and simple….love your cover…diana
Congrats on the cover shot!! Country for me is a state of mind. It’s enjoying and appreciating the beauty around us, both in our homes and outdoors. From a simple porch swing, a thriving garden to a warm white throw on a cool winter night. Its enjoying picnics with your family from a vintage basket and dining al fresco on a farm table that has stood the test of time. I love all things country and love being inspired by those that have a love for it also. Thanks for the opportunity to win one of these beautiful magazines!
Country for me right now is embracing my wide plank pine floors which have gaps in them by chinking them with cotton cording instead of putting down new floors. Loving the contrast between the golden honey color with the off white cording! Sealing the cording to keep it that way!
How exciting. Beautiful cover. Country to me means “simpler” decorating. 🙂
Country is recycling and repurposing things I already have. No use buying when I can re-use…..smiles
I love it….Congrats! Country for Me….There are so many wonderful things I love about Country, it’s simplicity, love vintage, Red & White enamelware, big white farmhouse and chickens running around everywhere. Thanks for a chance to win!
Country to me means believing you live in the country when you walk through your front door, even when you really live in the town.
Country for me means believing you live in the country when you walk through your front door, even when really you live in the town. Great front cover by the way.

country magazine helped me so much…that I started getting creative with a lot of my art…thank you Country Living
Country for me is still what drew me in nearly 30 years ago as a teenager. It is creating a comforting save home. Where guest and family feel cozy. For our cottage, it is an entrance of old fashioned flowers, herbs and vegetables, too. It is comfortable seating that lives well with children and pets. Vintage and meaningful collectibles from generations before. It is a cup of tea and home baked goods to share.
WOW! If that is the new country on the cover sign me up. Your cover says it all, Crisp, clean with organic pieces. I love it!
Wow! Would love to win! Country for me is my family and making warm and cozy atmosphere.
For me it’s the aged woods, beautiful old baskets, linens and well loved finds…
Country to me is mixing my Farm chic items with antiques..it’s warm cozy and comfortable!
Congratulations! For me its mixing it up…I gravitate toward the eclectic and modern country look.
Country for me is the quiet from the hustle & bustle, the enchanting sounds from my chickens and goats, the unique sunrise and sunset each day, and the serenity of living sustainably.
Country Living for me is design well considered. The art of living well. Guest who first experience a sense of welcome outside as they come up the front walk and then when they enter the foyer. Inside, main gathering rooms take over and give you more opportunities to add welcoming touches. Living rooms, extra throws, comfortable chairs and sofas are clustered to invite relaxed conversation. Dinner tables are set to say, “This meal is special.” Even the kitchen is place to feel comfortable, where you are totally at ease to make yourself a pot of tea. Little luxuries of fresh flowers, beautiful bowls, books, candlelight, fragrance, music and treasured personal possessions. As Charlotte Moss says; “Because your home is not a budget motel.”
Great cover, you are the best. Country for me is warm, cozy, personal, and inviting. I have always been a country decorator, growing up in a small town in New Mexico, and having a father that owned a Purina store influenced my taste for country.
Congratulations!!! Beautifully done.
(I have a subscription to the magazine, so please let someone else win the free copy — I just wanted to congratulate you!)
Country to me is trying to fix up my apartment to fit my style. I love the clean, simple, rustic look – mostly in white with touches of blue. Sort of French farmhouse, but very comfy! Congrats on your cover!
Jill Palumbo
Way to go! I love your work! For me country right now is rust and wood. Just recently I picked up a great piece of rusted up tin roofing… Now it is mounted on my family wall with our family picture just in the middle of it. ♥
Gorgeous! For me, country right now is mixing my well-loved vintage finds with some modern pieces. Updating the colors to be softer and more neutral. Displaying collections of functional pieces (ironstone, canning jars, apothecary jars, letters). Above all, though, it’s about feeling comfortable!
Congratulations Heather! Well deserved – gorgeous photo!
xo~Jill
Big congrats!
Love Country Living magazine. Country is unpretentious, comfortable, vintage/thrift shop finds mixed with lots of love. And it never hurts to have a warm pie on the table. When you walk in the door you know you have arrived home.
the cover looks great!!! congratulations!!! country to me means, keeping it simple, things I love, antique and vintage, old and new!!!
Angela from NJ
Congratulations! Love the cover! I already received my copy in the mail, so I don’t need a prize. Country to me is what feels like home, a bit farmhouse with antiques, but comfortable to live in because I have three sons and a husband. It’s a much cleaner look than twenty years ago, but still Country!
What is country for me right now is collecting eggs from our 20 chickens and 6 ducks each morning, planning out my spring herb and veggie garden and drawing up plans for a bigger chicken coop.
Congrats Heather! You are Sooooo talented!
Country to me is simple, fresh, natural elements. Pops of color against a clean, white background. Wood floors, farmstyle tables, comfy neutral upholstery with lots of lovely pillows. Most of all, country is homemade hospitality.
Best to you!
Shar
Congratulations. To me, country is finding interesting pieces at antique stores, used furniture stores, curbside, give aways, etc. and adding them to my 40 yr. accumulation. With a gallon of paint and mixing up pieces from various rooms, I have a new room design!
To me, country is a big old house with lots of rooms, and seperate rooms for kitchen, dining room and living room (you don’t see everything at once when you walk through the front door). It’s lots of wood (floors, framing), an over-stuffed couch and warm, inviting colours. It’s cluttered but not messy, clean but not sterile. Oh, and there’s a fragrance of something fresh-baked permeating the place.
Mason jars and bead board, hooks for hanging jackets or towels, wicker baskets, wood boxes, galvanized metal, concrete rabbits, picket fences, twig fences, country gardens with herbs and veg and homely flowers ….and critters like hens, goats, donkeys…to name a few.
“Country” now has taken on a whole new meaning for me. In these tough times, it’s no longer just a design fad; it’s a way of life. It means using what you have and not buying what you don’t need. It means getting back to the basics, back to quality versus quantity, back to clean, natural living. It’s about finding the beauty and joy in simplicity.
Thanks Heather, for all the lovely inspirational things you share in your blog, your Facebook page and your Pinterest Board. It’s great for us country girls who like to dream!
enjoy all the new exciting things, that I remember seeing as a child. brings backs lots of memories, and enjoy decorating my home with these ideas. thanks for sharing new experiences… 🙂
Congrats!!
Country style for me is old things with a history (preferably used in the country;)).
I wish I could live in an old house and decorate it with antique furniture (late 1800 / early 1900), but unfortunatley at the moment I live in an apartment.
Nut maybe some day I can realise my dream 😀
hugs
helena
Congratulations! Thank you for all of your inspiration.
Country style for me is using antique heirloom pieces that you adore and mixing them with things you find at flea market and antique stores, as well as more current items. I always love remembering where each piece came from…it’s much more interesting than thinking about the big box store where I got a good deal.
Still loving my few heart shapes (not Valentines) from the 70’s-80’s that were so popular when country was first introduced to me as a new wife. Everyone had a “country blue” home, but not me….I was a bit different in my approach. My country was mixed with true old pieces not the ones that were made to look antique. At the time, my network of friends didn’t understand my love for antiques…….mixed with the rest of my style. Funny how it took so long to catch on.
Congratulations on the cover. Simply beautiful.
The New Country to me is decorating with items that speak to you, and about you. No longer do our homes come straight from the pages of a magazine or some interior design page. New Country homes have a story to tell.
Hello Heather,
Country now for me is….
A roadside find, mason jars filled with blooms,
a collection of vintage, my Grandmother’s heirlooms
and fresh air in the countryside.
Congrat’s on the cover. I can’t wait to see it 😉
xxx Liz @ LizlovesVintage
Awesome! Love the tree stumps as stools.
Enjoy your Happy Day!
Congrats 🙂 🙂 I already subscribe to the magazine…but I’ll look forward to seeing your work on the front cover, when it arrives in my mailbox 😉 🙂 Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂
Country for me is a little true authentic French country and some vintage finds.. I love scouring the Flea Market or the local goodwill to find my goodies. FYI – The cover looks great! Thanks for the offer.
Country for me is souring thrift stores and flea markets to find vintage, beautifully aged items to add charm and patina to our new home – doors, shutters, mantels, furniture, etc. The more chippy and well-loved the better. I am trying to bring to life the feeling of my grandparents farm cottage in Ireland. Their hand-me-downs is the starting point. Thanks!
Congrats! Well done! For me, I love the thrill of the hunt and re-using/re-purposing affordable vintage finds.
Love the March cover. Can’t wait to get my copy. You shot it wit Lisa…I love her! We did a great shoot out here for Coastal Living a couple of years ago. She and her assistant Yolanda and I had the best time.
Kuddos to you! The cover is beautiful!
Country now for me means to infuse rustic charm with classic traditional. I regularly try to find unique vintage finds and incorporate them into a family living in 2012. I love the simplicity this kind of decorating feels…back to the basics!
Right now I’m helping plan my daughter’s wedding in Montana. She wants a country wedding and we are having so much fun finding ideas. Your blog certainly helps by the way! Our latest thing now is decorating the tables with Kerr jars (my maiden name) with candles placed inside of them. Also wildflowers in jars too. So much fun!!
Nothing says country like casual! So I love whites, creams , and tans right now. With that backdrop it is easy to accent with anything country, like the red plaids in old thermos’, throws and picnic baskets!! Oh, and an adorable doll case I just picked up that is red and plaid!!! Sunny and bright yellow sunflowers are a finishing touch!
I love the cover.
Country for me is that space when you know your home.
Nothing feels better than that moment of peace.
Congrats!
In a word comfortable. With no real must have pieces, but worn loved pieces. It seems to me in the world of decorating that if YOU love it,it will work together because it is your own taste.
Heather Yahoo!!!! I love the cover pic and you are a rock star in more ways than 1! Much love to you and yours. Blessings, Kimberly P.S. Crates mean country to me. We used to use them for our stereo back in the 70’s and now I could see using them for many other things now a days.
You don’t need to enter me as I am a loyal subscriber but I wanted to say congratulations. Your talent is huge and deserves the recognition Heather
CONGRATULATIONS! It’s a GREAT cover – we just got our issue today!
I love seeing your work in one of my very favorite magazines!
xoTrina
Congratulations on a “beautiful” cover…You are one talented girl! Country to me is decorating your house so it has that feeling of “warmth and love”, just like my grandparent’s house. I have a small 1860 farmhouse that I am trying to redo…I always enjoy the new and inspiring ideas in Country Living..Look forward to seeing the new issue!
Country for me is planning a family compound and farmstead, just found out we got the property.
Congratulations! You must be so proud {:0) So, what’s country to me, you ask? Well, it’s walking down old dirt roads in June with my husband & daughter, picking wild blackberries, then taking them home (if there’s any left) & making a homemade from scratch blackberry pie. They are so good we can barely wait long enough to eat it with a scoop of ice cream (homemade is best especially if it’s really hot).
Country for me is comfortable, rounded, natural. Cozy and warm.
So excited for you! Congrats!!
Country for me is handmade, green and growing, and worn out and used up (but obviously still with style and character!!!!!!)
Congratulations! Great cover. Country for me is hens in the backyard, looking forward to our Farmer’s Market opening in May, and plans for lots of canning this season.
congrats!!! country to me is comfort …simple beauty…living with things you enjoy…and not ever pretentious
Country to me is comfortable living with family pieces & found objects
Country now is what it’s always been for me. I am a country girl. My grandparents made their living off the land as citrus farmers. I have many pieces of furniture that was in their homes. It keeps them close and to me and it’s never gone out of style. Nothing “matches”, but it all goes together. It’s funky and eclectic and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
And congrats on the cover!
For me Country Now is cooking with veggies from my garden, making up beds with quilts I have sewn, a jar full of acorns to remind me of the beauty that is outside my window, star- gazing and making wishes on a full moon, dining by the light of bees wax candles, reusing junk mail to make a card for a special occasion, making cloth bags as gifts, growing lavender in memory of my grandparents……
Oh Heather, congratulations on the front cover, how wonderful!! I love reading your posts and looking at your photos. I’m a California girl, born and raised but recently moved to Guadalajara, Mexico. Country design to me is my own country, the U.S. I can’t tell you how much I miss going to flea markets and antique shops and scouting out ironstone dishes!! To some it may seem silly, but you know what I mean! I took for granted all the wonderful things that I could do in the U.S., going to yard sales and thrift stores… and Target, I really miss Target!!! 😉 I’ve been looking through past issues of my Country Living and Romantic Homes magazines, but it just makes me miss home even more!
Country to me is a mixture of old and new styles that are relaxed. I feel with country you never have to follow any rules. Congrats on your cover…Country Living is lucky to have you!
Congratulations Heather:
Cannot wait for my March issue to arrive in the mail, my favorite magazine of all time! I live in the city but my heart is “country” for sure- making my home a cozy place for family and friends – just about everything in my home is crafted by a friend or family member, from art on the walls to furniture we live with, you can’t buy country; I think it is the condition of your heart!
Congrats again.
Joie de Vivre
congratulations heather..that is exciting news. I got my issue yesterday and sat on my couch last night enjoying it. I have not gotten to that article but I already devoured the cover…love those stools and THAT fridge. I think “loving” the simple way of life is Country Living and it is not easy to obtain in this day and age of cell phone, computers and having busy lives. slowing down and unplugging once in while can help.
Congrats on the beautiful cover! Country living is making the most of what you have using things of the past and present to create a life that gives you comfort, joy and meaning.
Your cover is wonderful! I bet you are thrilled. Thank you for the giveaway.
Country Now is remembering Country Way Back When and then putting your own twist and spin on it.
Bringing in an old screen door that reminds you of your grandma’s, taking a Sunday drive, saying grace before meals, sometimes washing and drying the dishes yourself, using local and fresh grown organic ingredients when you cook and bake,
taking joy in simple pleasures, opening windows and letting the curtains blow in the breeze, treasuring heirlooms from the old country, using what you have, working hard, and living within your means.
And always, always, love for country, home town, and family.
Kudos to you Heather. The cover is lovely. Country Living to me is surrounding yourself with items you love, hand-me-downs, favorite colors, and a mix of this and that. It is making your home slip-off-your-shoes and put-your-feet-up comfy. It’s porch-sitting and having friends, family, neighbors, food and fun for the holidays. Country is lending a hand, sharing, and doing random acts of kindness. Country is flowers and birds for all seasons. Country is me!!
WOW! Congrats on the cover photo! I can’t wait to see the issue. Country for me is a mix of hand-me-down antiques from my dear Mom plus new funtional pieces that help control the clutter of my busy household.
Well, since I have lived in Texas my entire life and since I currently live in the “Cowboy Capital of the World” the term country is a huge spectrum of things from ranches, to prairies, to small suburban towns. Since I’m a romantic, Francophile, the kind of country I appreciate most is a sophisticated romantic country style with a close attachment to gardening, celebrating outdoors and decorating with floral paintings, fresh handpicked flowers, and botanical prints.
Congratulations on this huge achievement!!!
Mandy
Congratulations. I love the cover. Country to me is mixing vintage with new and making it fit me. I love all white mixed with old wood. I actually like alot of different things. But anything old is wonderful.
i already have the issue, so you can leave my entry out if you like, but i just wanted to say that i loved the cover and article. i so badly want a vintage style fridge like the one in that kitchen! that and a farmhouse sink always say Country to me 🙂
