Deal of the Day

Napks02
One of the unexpected surprises of having a daughter in college and living in her own apartment, is her reintroducing you to the Dollar Store. Or the .99 Only store. Which is really .99999999 cents. Truth be told I hadn't been to either of them in ages and it was high time she got me reaquainted with some of their virtues.

Napks01

That's where I came across these amazing heavy cotton napkins. They have a thick, nubby texture and I love the single blue linen stripe woven through. Had to have them! So I snatched up a dozen from the .99 Only chain store. If you're heading out the door right now to grab yourself a stack, don't look for them in the most obvious of places because I found them in the car/hardware section. Probably because some weirdo decided to put this tag on them…..

Napks03

Don't know many people looking for a 21" x 21" Floor Cloth. Maybe it's for teeny, tiny rooms? Maybe it's for only for cleaning floors? Anyhoo, if you're in the market for some great, durable cotton napkins…these would be perfect.

When was the last time you went to the Dollar Store and what did you buy?

My daughter is a graphic design student and lives in an apartment across the street from a Dollar Store. I am amazed at the projects she completed in her first year of Art Foundation, all made from items from the dollar store! It’s such a fun place to get lost in hunting for what might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

  2. Alice

Wow, these are lovely! Unfortunately we don’t have a Dollar Store here…Rats!

  3. Melissa

Thanks for the tip. I only recently rediscovered the dollar store when looking for cheap boxes for a cookie exchange i hosted.

Was just on my way there today… party favors for 9 yr olds. Will head over the the car/hardware section and take a peek!

those are totally the deal of the day!
    my goodness
hopefully our $1 store in atlanta will have them too 😉

I just thought I’d explain why they’re floor cloths… Well, you know when you have your car worked on and they put those little mats in the floor so the mechanics don’t get grease, etc. on your carpet? Well, that’s what these are. We’re mechanics around here. We use them all the time. And they’re great for the original purpose, but of COURSE they make great napkins. Just like the cheapo 49 cent dish towels from Ikea.
    Love everything you love,

Who knew?! Our car place uses those plastic sheets. Glad to know there are some eco friendly repair shops! But in my opinion, these are too nice to use that way.
    Thanks for the heads up!

What a steal. I love the $ store and frequent it often. You would be amazed at some of the stuff they have. I have a 12 place setting of their white dishes…they are a little uneven around the edges but that is why I loved them. Another discovery, huh?

I just got back from the dollar store…let me explain…
I am visiting in a retirement community in Florida and the dollar store is a favorite outing for my mother in law! Anyway…I did not see those great napkins. However, I am sure she will want to go back tomorrow and I will certainly check out the car/hardware section! Thanks for the tip!

Wish our little southern town had the .99 Only store! What great idea!! Thanks!

  15. Krys72599

WOW! Will be checking any and all dollar stores near me, same chain or not, for other weirdo mistakes like that one!

  16. Lolo

What a find! I am going to have to go check them out 🙂
My favorite .99 store purchase was about 2 years ago. I got white porcelain dinner plates for 0.99 – and we are talking the heavy duty, buffet style, oven-proof ones! The kind in restaurants. TOTAL BIG score….I use them at all of our family functions and parties.
I got 20 of them for under $20. Cant beat that 🙂 I only wish I had taken all of them in the store. LOL

  17. Lori-Anne

These are fantastic! With many things in dollar stores and their ilk, it’s all about context – put it in a nice setting and you’ve got an incredible find, not just some cheapy merchandise. I like to get picture frames – the simple black frames especially – from dollar stores, and I once found a cash of awesome, clunky sleigh bells for my Christmas tree. Wonderful character ornaments for only $1 each! I would have paid $5-10 each in a boutique for the same things!

  18. Rebecca

They are beautiful ~ I always love to poke around at our Dollar Tree, it’s fun to see what they have. Have plans to go tomorrow actually, maybe they will have something similar…with red maybe? 😉

  19. kara

It is so fun to find something fun at those places. Love these….sometimes the dollar store is my pick-me-up place 😉

I went yesterday to buy sugar dispensers to keep my spools of twine in. The dollar stores are perfect for things like this! Love those floor cloths too!

I stop into my dollar store from time to time – they carry a large straight sided glass vase that is not only a great vase, but a wonderful organizer of stuff in my studio – easy to see what’s inside and with the straight sides, easy to store stuff in…

  22. Jeanie

I an off to find them, too. I buy “readers” at the dollar store for yes, one dollar. I can have a pair in every room. 🙂

  23. SouthernGirl

We don’t have one of those here. This is WalMart country…sigh. but we do have Dollar Tree, Dealz and Dollar General…

  24. Cindy in Austin

WOW! Thanks for the inspiration. I haven’t been to the dollar store in decades : )
These remind me of the French Laundry stripe napkins I recently purchased from One Kings Lane for … $15 each.
Great find, to say the least!

  25. Debra

LOL I am always amazed by what people find at the dollar stores. Those are great. I will definitely check next time I’m in one. Thanks for the heads up:)

    Hi there,
I’m enjoying your enthusiasm about the $1.00
store. No need to haggle there. Ha, Ha!
For a buck. Why not? I shop at the dollar
store. Great stuff! I found sun glasses
that were marked $15.00 for $1.00. You
never no what you will find. I’ve seen
the floor cloths where I live. I wonder
how tea staining them would look? I’ll post
my painting next week. Then, I’ll give you
    the link.
    Have a great weekend 😉

I did go right in Dollar General when I read your post! But, alas, none were found! I did find $8 storage baskets made from woven straw material much like the
ones @ The Container Store that I recently paid $13 & $20 each. Thanks for your inspiration.

  28. michelle

WOW, love those! Just tonight actually and bought a bunch of things to make teacher Valentines Day gifts. LOVE the store, but sometimes I find myself with a bunch of crap I don’t “really” need. Anyway, I may have to head on over to see if they have any floor cloths ??!?! Thanks for sharing!

  29. colleen

wow those are great…I shall have to peek around our $ store!
Last time I went I bought a 8c mustard bowl…reminiscent of some of my vintage ones!…but it wasn’t a dollar…but its really cool!

  30. Karen

LOVE these! Thanks so much for sharing this…now i need to check out the nearest $store. 🙂

  31. Carol

When I glanced at your post my first thought (before reading) was “what great vintage napkins”. I am heading to the $.99 store tomorrow.

  32. Jonesy @ misssavvychic.blogspot.com

Love your finds. I frequent the Dollar Tree. This week I bought a pop-up hamper for a trip and fabulous plastic storage bins for the pantry. Sometimes their organizational tools blow my mind.
Please settle a silly argument between my husband and me… Which syllable of your last name gets the emphasis?

  33. Heather Bullard

    Too funny Jonesy!
My last name is actually pronounced Bullurd like curd.
    NOT Bullard like hard.
Many people mispronounce it. Hope this helps! Please tell me who wins! ~H

  34. Jill Flory

I am BUMMED. There are no .99 only stores around here! I’d be headed out to get some of those! Wouldn’t they make cute pillow covers?! If you want to ship me some I’d gladly pay you for shipping AND handling!!

  35. Lolo

My .99 store had them 🙂 (I live on the Cen Coast in Calif)
They were in a misc area where other kitchen towels were. I had to sort thru them tho…some had weird stains on them, and mis-matched hems (I am assuming the cotton material they used to make them were sub-par). I got the nice ones of course 😉
I also grabbed two small green-tinted glasses (votive holders I am assuming) that I am going to use for salt cellars 🙂
Thanks for reminding me to check out my .99 store Heather!!

  36. Debe

Lost my previous comment I think. Will try again…went to my 99 Cent Store and couldn’t find the floor cloths in the auto/hardware section. Scored mine in the linen section with napkins, dish towels, etc… Someone in my local store must have better style than some. Got 12 for my upcoming Supper Club event. Thanks!

  37. Heather :) :) :)

Those towels are really cute 🙂 🙂 I’m not even sure if there’s a dollar store in my area..but I do love to visit thrift stores 🙂 Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂

  38. Jenny

You never know what you’ll find, but it’s always an adventure. I shop dollar-type stores regularly for kids/4H projects. The ‘napkins’ aka drop cloths are awesome. You know what gets us excited!

  39. Barbara

What a great surprise it must have been to find these great little things at the Dollar store. I haven’t been in one of them in a long time either, but I will be checking one out for sure after this post! Thanks
    Barbara
PS: Stop by my blog whenever you can 🙂

  40. Kim from 3 peanuts

I looked up the .99 store here and went on Saturday, I had no luck. I looked in the auto and hardware section too. But i am not giving up yet. these are quite a good deal:)

  41. Erika

I love the .99 store in Houston….I purchase the Glade 3 wicker candles (lemongrass) that cost $8 at Walmart..I find them at the .99 Store for $2. Needless to say I have a huge plastic bin under the bed full of those candles since I use them all over the house year round and also they make a perfect quick gift..for $2!
I’ve also found authentic enamelware dishes and cups at that store! 😉

  42. Laurie

We have the Dollar Tree in Mn, not the 99cent store. We love the wine glasses, readers, stationary, stamps, paper napkins, and stickers. You never know what you will find there and so keep coming back to see!
