l’Objet qui Parle

Oooh, this is the part where I get to tell you about the amazing antique shop we stumbled upon! I had not heard nor read about it anywhere in my research, online or otherwise. So finding it was completely serendipitous.
It's like this shop was meant for me to find!
Welcome to l'Objet qui Parle

The shop was so well curated and you could easily see it was the singular vision of the owner. He had an amazing collection of taxidermy, botanical prints and specimens, religious relics, oil paintings, gorgeous chandeliers and antique china. And his shop was so small and packed that he had to stand outside on the sidewalk…no sales counter here.
Why bother anyway, it leaves more room for inventory!

I spent a lot of time peeking into every little nook and cranny. Didn't want to miss a thing! I studied his shop like I was cramming for my mid term finals. My affection was obvious and he allowed me to take photos…so glad he did (many don't). In the shot above I loved the chalkware cow and the small landscape prints wrapped in copper frames. Can you spot them?

His mirror selection was amazing and he had them wrapped all around the store. My sister collects sunburst mirrors and has a wall of them in her home. They make for a beautiful gallery. And don't you love the vintage cannisters, cafe au lait bowls and mis-matched sets of china?

Hello amazing gray cabinet…will you squeeze into my luggage please? And I don't mind if everything in it comes along too.

I found his prices to be similar to those at the flea markets. I bought a gorgeous antique oil painting and a shadow box butterfly specimen. Will show you those later, promise.

I'm positive the owner scours the best flea markets in and around Paris. He doesn't even open his shop until 1pm. Probably to ensure plenty of time for treasure hunting. And he also doesn't have a website. But if you're going to Paris and love antique shops, I would not miss this one.
The next time I'm in Paris…I'm heading here first!

    Heather,
I’m so enjoying your Paris posts. I wonder if you would consider doing a question and answer posts? Or maybe a quick guide on planning a trip such as yours for first time travelers. (Etiquette, things not to do, what not to bring, or things to bring, etc.)
Thank you for the beautiful inspiration you’ve provided us readers.

I want to do this same trip – loving the photos. You should think about doing a small, self published book with notes for travelers.

Thanks for sharing this little gem of a shop. When we were in Paris (two years ago!) we delighted in finding little brocante shops and a flea market or two off the tourist routes. Same with specialty shops seemingly dedicated to just one type of product. We blogged about these to share them with our readers, just as you have. Merci! Nous allons visiter cette boutique la prochaine fois que nous sommes à Paris!

What a wonderful treat to get to tour Paris with you. And, those photos–WOW, they just sink into my soul!
My favorite part of Thanksgiving this year was to have my sweet, 84-year-old mom with us. Shortly before Christmas last she she has a heart attack and was hospitalized and on a vent for over three week, survival was touch and go. I am blessed beyond measure that she’s still with us.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to win these wonderful gifts! You’re amazing!

Hi Heather! Somehow I missed this post the first time around . . . your photos of this little shop quickened my pulse, just a little. I would like to say that I collect butterflies, but two do no a collection make . . . and it was the butterflies, I think that did my pulse in . . . or maybe the turtle shell. I’m headed to Paris very soon, and if I should happen onto anything half as wonderful, it’s coming home with me! . . . I have a question for you, are there any custom’s issues with something like that? Would you consider an article or post on Customs? I would love to hear your thoughts!
    Thank you! {ever so much}

I am hoping to go to Paris in April – it’s all up to the tax man. I love all the cute, tiny shops that carry such amazing finds. Your photos make me want to get planning. Please Mr. Tax Man let it happen.

  22. Sylvia/LittleTreasures

Oh thanks for posting this. I am planning a trip once my son gets settled in. He loves these shops too!!! Can’t wait.
I was hoping it was in Kansas…visiting him there in a few weeks. Enjoy the weekend.

  23. Lynda Harley

My sister and I found this shop March 2012 and enjoyed the visit. I purchased an old clock, an amber bottle labeled Argent Nitric, and an old metal calendar(roll type)…..thanks to your posting.

  24. Robert

I went to this store at the end of May 2012 and I think he’s out of business. He wasn’t open during his posted hours, his store window was empty and you couldn’t see into the store past the empty display window. From the pictures I’ve seen, I can’t imagine he empties his window on a regular basis. I was so disappointed. Anyone know if he has, indeed, closed up?
