DIY: Chalkboard Treat Baskets

Trbaskt04
Here's a fun and easy craft project for your upcoming fall parties. I created these Chalkboard Treat Baskets for the autumn issue of Souvenir. The little goodie baskets make great party favors or classroom treats and kids will have lots of fun making them!

Trbk1
1. Supplies: Chalkboard paint, garden peat pots, twine or ribbon, foam brush, hole punch, scissors, chalkpaint pen or chalk, assorted candy, cookies or toys.
2. Cut out peat pots to make individual baskets. One package of garden peat pots will make 32 treat baskets.

Trbk2
3. Apply 1-2 coats of chalkboard paint to exterior of peat pots. Let dry.
4. Punch holes on sides of basket and tie twine handle.

Trbk3
5. Using chalkpaint pen or chalk to write names or phrases on baskets.
6. Fill with your favorite holiday treats!
Enjoy!

cute! I love this idea for my now adult children! That way they get a small treat and then have the little container to use for other purposes.

I love these–I have the pots but have never seen the black and white twine before–it is much heavier than what I have. Where did you purchase it?

  11. Heather Bullard

The black twine was purchased at Ikea. It was part of their holiday gift wrapping items. Hope you’re able to find it or something similar. Michaels and Joanns usually has cute twine or you can try Etsy. Best! ~ H

Hi Heather, my son (Adam, 6) and I made these for his class! I posted a pic (of the ones we made) on my FB page and credited you for the idea. Hope that’s okay. Can’t wait for his classmates to get them!
    Happy Halloween,
    Debs

Btw, I think your version with the b&w twine is very classy. We used black and orange pipe cleaners that we twisted because it was easy to find and a bit more colourful for the youngsters. We also used actual white chalk to write on them. Thanks for the idea, love it!

This a cute and inexpensive idea. Awesome! I am already thinking of ways to use that blackboard paint for something else.
