Corner of My Home: Antique Swedish Cabinet

Cabinet0219
Hello, hello! Today I thought I'd show you one of my favorite finds…an antique Swedish glass front cabinet. I stumbled upon it while out shopping with my mom and sister. It's funny how things find you when you least expect it.

The interior was painted hot pink but it didn't distract me from seeing it's potential. I absolutely loved the clean lines, original wavy glass and authenticity. With a quick check for measurements I knew I had the perfect spot for it nestled between two windows.

After we hauled it home I repainted the bright pink with Borrowed Light by Farrow & Ball and applied a light wash of Antiquing Glaze to give it a worn appearance. The pale blue gray color really helps showcase the display pieces.

For summer I've filled it with ocean inspired items such as sea shells, old glass bottles, ironstone, books and a small ship painting. I know I'm going to have fun changing things out with the seasons. Let the collecting begin!

I believe the cabinet may have been painted long ago since you can still see tiny remains of paint in the cracks but I admire and appreciate the natural patina of the wood. And the door handles may not be original but they are still very lovely with their worn brass finish.

For now the top is piled high with hydrangeas from my garden. I'm sure those will be replaced with seasonal greenery. But today…summer is still hanging on.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a fabulous Monday!

Great that you were able to see past the hot pink! I know sometimes I have a hard time with that sort of thing. It really looks great!

    Simply beautiful…
I love the soft worn wood and the vintage pulls. You can just imagine the hands that have touched it and the things it has stored.
The shells remind me of ones my mother had in our home growing up. Sweet memories.
Thanks for sharing your new find. I am sure it is delightful just looking at it with all of your belongings displayed. 🙂

Oh, it’s so beautiful Heather! I absolutely love the worn wood and the interior color you chose. The summer pieces fit right in. I have a similar ship print in my kitchen.
Your home photos are always just breathtaking. Thank you as always for the inspiration.

I love how this turned out. Do you have a before picture? I was curious to the color of the wood before you glazed it. I would like to do that same look on a dresser top, but don’t know what color to start with.
    Thanks!

Really gorgeous Heather! I love all your goodies you added to the shelves. The old bottles look so nice in there, especially with the ship painting behind it. Thanks for sharing, Marcia

Heather, how do you dry your hydrangeas so that they stay open? Do you pick them at their peak, or leave them on the bush till their color fades?

Heather, it’s so lovely. The pale colors are beautiful, and very soothing.
