Antiquing in the OC
One of my favorite places to go antiquing is the city of Orange because there are tons of shops all within walking distance and the selection is always great. My friend Amy and I hit up a few recently…here's a peek into our day!
We both loved this large metal bin to use for recyclables or firewood. The old bike instantly brought up conversation about the show American Pickers and Mike Wolfe's bike obsession.
Amy came prepared with caffeine in hand. She makes such gorgeous jewelry! We noticed carnival wheels and memorabilia seemed to be pretty popular with many of the dealers. And we were very smitten with the old boat on the mantle.
Stopping by Down Home Antiques was a must because I'm on the hunt for a primitive cabinet and aside from a trip to Texas or Brimfield…that is the place to find it. The shop had lots of fun Americana displays with barber shop poles and patriotic flags. It all looked so summery!
Oddly enough one of our favorite things were their old wood floors with metal patch repairs. Very cool don't you think? Strange that I hadn't noticed them before even though I've shopped there for years.
We had a great day and actually shopped our way right through lunch…meaning now we'll just have to plan another!

H~ And the wooden floor has an H on it just for you. 🙂 Beautiful stuff out there in the OC. Looks like you had a great time. Blessings, Kimberly
Haven’t been to Orange in a while – but what I really miss is the Long Beach Flea. When you come to Round Top, do you ever stop in Bellville at Nothing Ordinary? They have great stuff – its on my way from Houston. It was a secret spot my “friends” didn’t tell me about for a couple of years!
Very nice! I went to film school at Chapman University, so I was right down the street from these shops! I so wish I could be near them now. At the time, I was on a student budget and not able to buy all of the lovely finds!
I went to Chapman, too! I loved going to those shops just to look around all the time!!
When we lived in Long Beach and anyone came from out of state for a visit…I always took them shopping in Orange. I miss that place!! xo
What a wonderful day….seeing this just added another place on my wish list of places to visit.
Thanks =)

We went to Orange earlier this week because of this point and had a lovely day. I had no idea this wonderful place existed. Thanks for sharing this post and helping me find such a gem!
Thanks so much for coming into Down Home Heather! It was great meeting you and Amy! Love your blog! Hope to see you soon.

Thank you so much for featuring Down Home Antiques. This is the best antique store anywhere. And I am not just saying that because it is my baby sister that owns it. If I still lived in California instead of Georgia, I’d be in troubled – I’d be in Down Home every weekend. I kid my sister that I only come to Orange so I can shop at Down Home. It has nothing to do with me missing my sisters of course!
Hi Heather,
I have been shopping at Down Home Country since they opened. It is a fabulous store and I always find incredible treasures there! And the owner is super sweet!
Love your blog and your photo’s are spectacular!
Have a lovely night.
Sincerely,
Melinda
