Laundry Room Reno in Progress
On the homefront, we've been working on a laundry room renovation. Please forgive my cell phone photos. Sometimes you just want to take a quick photo and move on…you know?
Here's what we've been up to so far:
- Had the wallpaper removed. Money well spent.
- Replaced the window and installed new trimwork & casings.
- Painted the walls Farrow & Ball: Skylight No. 205
- Painted ceiling and trim Farrow & Ball: All White No. 2005
- Installed tongue & groove on the ceiling. We used Pro's Choice Edge V Knotty Pine purchased from Home Depot
- Installed 4 1/2" crown molding.
- Removed the entry door and trimmed out the jam.
- Installed a new schoolhouse light fixture.
We've also purchased a new washer & dryer and today I picked up a fabulous antique kilim rug. We still need to install a wood top across the washer & dryer and add a few more details. Hope to have some final shots for you soon. Most likely with a real camera. π
So, what have you been doing on the homefront? Any projects in the works? Do tell!

Ooooh I cant wait to see the finished project!
Looks gorgeous. I love planked wood and cannot get enough. Where did you buy that particular brand and did the package have lots of knots in the planks?? Often, I find that to be the case and have a lot of waste at the end. I have used a different brand in the past and am looking for a better version!
Hey Heather, I can’t wait to see your finished laundry room. I’ve been wanting to tackle my own, now you’ve inspired me to get it done.
I just added an old chippy door to my den. Working a little in the garden, too. That’s about all around here.
Trying to get my hands on FMS magazine! I still can’t find it here in Louisiana, yet.
Have a great day π
I’m anxious to see your finished photos. I’ve been wanting to install bead board on my bedroom ceiling (we have a farmhouse style home), so seeing the tongue and grove boards going into place inspired me… again. However, my laundry room is still being finished as well – more bead board on one wall, some trim molding, a few hooks for clothes, and we’re done. Why is it that the last few things take the longest? I’m sure it’s so I can work on developing patience!
Heather…love the ceiling! I used the same wood on the ceiling in a little room I call the “garden room” off my kitchen, which leads to my garden. I wanted a garden shed type of feel and the wood gave me the look I wanted. On another note, thanks to FMS for naming my little Fancy Flea down here in Lakeland one of the reader’s favorites…I was thrilled.
Your laundry room project sounds fantastic, Heather. LOVE the idea of an antique kilim rug in there. Of course, you’re also using my favourite paint – isn’t it great?!!
Can’t wait to see it all done! I’ve been wanting to paint and get our laundry room taken care of but I keep putting it off. Hopefully your final pictures will give me that push to get ours done π
I cant wait to see the reveal!;) My husband has been busy remodeling our 1930s cottage kitchen!I did a post about the chandelier he surprised me with!We are keeping all the original cabinetry and beadboarding all the walls and changing the counter tops and sink to an Ikea farmhouse sink~Love your blog~ Rachel Noelle

Hi Ginger!
We bought the planks at Home Depot. And no, there weren’t a lot of knots. They seemed pretty clean. Not sure if you can tell from my tiny cell phone photos. π
Thanks for visiting!~H
You’re so welcome Lori! But the real credit goes to our dear readers! They obviously love your Fancy Flea!
Smiles, H
Sounds dreamy! I’m sure your cottage kitchen will turn out absolutely lovely!

H~ Your blog is a breath of fresh air! Takes me away from my freezing cold winter days. I recently removed the wall paper from a few rooms and now I am itching to paint something! Anything! Lots of love to you and yours. Blessings, Kimberly
P.S. I am off and running today looking for a copy of FMS!
cannot wait to see the finished product. Love that wood ceiling. No home projects going on my way. Nursing a sick husband- post surgery. Things should be back to normal soon (Iam keeping my fingers crossed).
It all sounds so wonderful, Heather!! I’m lovin’ the wood planks on the ceiling! Look forward to seeing the finished room… I know it will be gorgeous!
I have take this opportunity to give you my warm and sincerest thank you for mentioning my blog in the new issue of Flea Market Style!!! What a wonderful surprise that was for me (and some of my blogger friends, too)!! π I also wanted to tell you how much I LOVED the magazine!! The feature on “The White House”… absolutely loved it!! There was great inspiration to be had throughout… just loved it! Thanks again!!

Heather, can’t wait to see the finished project. I have a laundry room to do myself. And can I just say, thank for taking the time to respond to the comments.
A beautiful (and functional) laundry room is so important. I know I spend a ton of time in mine so I want my surroundings to make me happy. We finished up our master bathroom remodel a few months ago. Super happy with the outcome. We used Calcutta marble…which I love love love. Next it’s on to the master bedroom!
Yikes…I feel some jealousy coming on π That room is going to look great I can tell…..
Hi Heather, your room looks like it’s coming along real nicely. I always love to see a good man work!
I just finished painting my kitchen, boy does that feel good! My last post showed the final pictures…I don’t know if I should say final as it’s always an ongoing process. Just need my new floors!

Oh to have a large laundry room.. I’m liking the ceiling as your doing it and can’t wait to see the finished project.. I’ve been working on my entire town house.. kitchen totally redone, built a faux fireplace wall unit and a new desk.. I love to build and maybe I should build a garage for all my tools.. today bought new floors for the entire downstairs and staircase.. and it’s stacked in the living room… oh so much to do!
Good luck with your remake!
Sandy
Hi Heather,
We have been working on our spare Bathroom since Jan.
I tell you, I hate the sheetrock installation part. Dust,
Dust everywhere. I know, I shouldn’t complain!! Can’t wait
till this part is OVER. Looking good on your end!! Is this a pic
of Hubby? Mine is working so hard. I need to bake him a cake.
xxx Liz
Your posts are always so inspirational — they always make me want to tidy up and make everything beautiful!
My big renovation is that my husband redid my office as a Valentine’s gift — lavender and yellow walls, comfy chairs, a screen to hide the filing cabinets, and we’re on the lookout for the perfect country table to replace my ugly but functional old metallic desk.
i just got done with my laundry room redo…. i love it so much…..

I love seeing all of your home projects, Heather. They are always so fresh and inspiring! The last project that I did was our dining room. It was a total transformation. I painted all of the furniture, (including the piano) and made linen slip covers for the chairs. I decorated with objects that were in our barn when we moved here and flea market, yard sale and thrift store finds. The color we painted it is almost the exact color of your laundry room! I can’t wait to see your “after” pictures! Cindy
Hi Heather!
I can’t wait to see the finished project! I have been wanting to use the wood planks on the ceiling in our daughters room. I used the bead board look wallpaper in our son’s room to add a little character. We moved them both upstairs to their older siblings rooms (both are away at college). So now in addition to working on their new rooms, I am trying to make their old rooms into guest rooms. Lots of spring projects going on around our house:)

Hi Heather! I just love the sight of a man willingly painting over wood! Although your wood is light in color to begin with, I just recently convinced my husband to let me paint over a small patch of orange-aged knotty pine over our mantle, and I can’t believe the difference it made. The antique kilim rug idea for a laundry room sounds so exotic and intriguing. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together! ~Lili
A new washer and dryer…..
Oh, that would be so nice.
What have I been doing on the homefront?
You don’t want to know.
π
Hi Heather – I can’t wait to see the finished laundry room!! I am using the same planks on my bedroom ceiling!! We haven’t started it yet, but hope to in the next couple of weeks! Are you going to paint or stain yours?
Your blog is one of the first ones I started reading a few years ago and always look forward to seeing more photos of your home!! You never disappoint with your wonderful ideas!!! Thanks for sharing such wonderful photos.
Thank you!!!

How exciting!!! I’m dying to transform our ceiling with planks!! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
i can’t wait to see the finished product! i really want to put bead board on the ceiling of my breakfast room. i love your chickens too. you can see mine, and some of my projects in my “around the yard 2010” album at gallery.me.com/lebentier. i love looking at your blog!
Looking forward to seeing your finished room. We are also in the middle of a laundry room renovation (since April!) but I’m not complaining!! My husband is doing all of the work himself – up to building the cabinets right now. We’re getting there!
Love the pine ceiling! And that light blue/gray is dreamy. We’ve just finished sprucing up our house to put it on the market. Nothing gets you in gear to finish languishing projects and declutter like listing your house! Should have painted the kitchen years ago. I am digging the fresh look and have fingers crossed someone else will fall in love with my baby… I mean house.
can’t wait to see this – I want to install that paneling on my ceiling in my mudroom but always get a little confused about how to put it up.
Oh, Wow! Did you put the panels straight over popcorn ceiling?? That would be so awesome to do. Mmmmm…new ideas are brewing π (love your blog too)
H,
Would you be willing to send a picture of the packaging details that may include a website or address for the company? I’ve contacted my local Home Depot and online and they don’t carry it. I’m trying to find an alternate location to purchase it. I called lumber liquidators and they don’ recommend any of their flooring for the ceiling, ugh! Thanks for your help, love the simple idea that will spruce up a small space.
Crystal (sargcity6@yahoo.com)
Hi Crystal,
There’s a photo of the package on the post. Lower bottom left. I don’t have the original package anymore, sorry. It’s not flooring but wood planking and was located near the crown molding aisle.
Hope you find it in your area. I know it’s available nationwide at most home improvement stores.
Best,
Heather
Love the design and inspires me to remember to use my drawers below the units. I just finished re-designing my little laundry area as well. Had a shelf built above the units and covered with stainless steel. We have log home and had previously had cabinets hung on the log walls. I wanted to be able to see those logs, so we had the shelf built. My idea was to have a useable space with baskets of items I use regularly and a little lamp on the shelf. But, now I am running out of space and still no lamp on the area. Will take use of the drawers for items as you suggested. Have not tested the bottles of windex, etc. yet but will be re-thinking that area again. I would love to send you photos of my area to get ideas on decor, etc. though. THanks for sharing your’s.
This is reminds me that i need also to create an idea to make my home improve. In Finland many people use to renovate different part of their home which every time i see the finish one i am always amaze.I heard that they consult in a home interior design to make their home really improve and i prove that it was and i am impress.
I could not believe the photos are taken using the phone only. I have my phone that I used when taking picture that I posted on the internet, I donβt find them more attractive though.
