The Girls of Chez Poulet

Here's a quick video of a few of The Girls and of course, The Chicken Whisperer. As you can see, everyone is still getting along well. Ruby seems to have taken over as "Lead Chicken". She even plays with Bella but almost in a taunting way and our sweet Bella doesn't even have the heart to bark at her. When I told The Man about the sibling rivalry and bully chick he said, "Do you want me to eat her"? Oh yes, dear. That will solve everything.

Here's a reminder of how much they've grown in a few short months. Sorry for the fuzzy video, not sure why the focus is off. They were both taken with my Flip. Go figure.

On July 1st, the girls turned 4 months old and I've read that they start laying eggs anywhere between 4-6 months. I hope they don't lay them while I'm away on location. I have a very busy shooting schedule this summer and I don't want to miss the big event! Can. Not. Miss. It.

Heather, they look great! It’s amazing how fast they grow. I jut petitioned my village for chickens so it’s going to the board. I am glad your dog gets along with them because I was wondering about ours.

  2. Tamra / The Gilded Barn

They are beautiful. I’m glad to see they get to roam outside their maison. They can really keep the bug population down in and around the house.
Just wait until you get those beautiful eggs!
    Enjoy!

Bella and the girls are so darn cute I can hardly stand it!! I’ve passed around the video link to all my co-workers. What a wonderful dose of heaven in the midst of a corporate day. Until now, they had no idea how cute chickens could be. Thanks for a little diversion.

LOL! Love the video on the chics… just makes you laugh. On a different note, I just did a blog on trying to find the right white to paint my bedroom. I want a white with a slight hint of gray….after seeing your video…do you have any suggestions?
Please stop by at RB next Sunday if you’re there to say hello!

They’ve gotten so big, and are so pretty-enjoy!

There is nothing like that lovely soft contented clucking, so soothing and relaxing! We kept chickens when I was a girl, and I would love to again – and a little orchard, and a Wensleydale sheep to keep the grass down…

I love it! My 9 girls are just a little younger than yours. We have just finished our coop using reclaimed materials from an old house my dad has. We used your coop as an inspiration, however!
I wish I could allow my chickens to leave their coop/run, but we have 4 large dogs who are a little frisky so I haven’t chanced it.
    Have fun!

Love your girls. We have 7 in our little mini farm…2 Barred Rocks, 3 Ameracaunas, 1 Rhode Island Red, and 1 Red Sexlink. I would say they were between 5 and 6 months before they laid their first little pullet leg. You will love it….so adorable!!

  18. Carol Keller Bass

Hopefully you know I meant “egg” and not “leg.” Oops!! Also love your little helper. I’m afraid that our 3 dogs would be too helpful and “help themselves” if you know what I mean! They have to watch through the windows when the girls are on walk-about.

I also asked permission from my HOA to have chickens and they said “No”!.. I have a very large yard so that is not a problem.. they think I’m crazy?
Yours are so beautiful and I hope your home for the first eggs!

Oh Heather, would it be wrong for you to start a “chicken blog”???? I love your cute chickens, since we’ve all been able to see them grow up.
I’ve wanted chickens since your first post about yours but it is too hot here in Arizona.
That Bella is too much. She is so sweet with them.

  22. Linda Hanselman

OOOO I am so jealous. i want chickens but alas I don’t think our condo association would agree to that. I love farm fresh eggs. There is nothing like it.

  23. Linda

So cute! I love my “girls” too! Who knew chickens were such cool pets!?!?!

  24. Junk Chicks

Love it! Since You posted about your chicks I had written that for easter we were going to get additonal chicks and we did 2 aracanas and a buff orpington…..they are so cute I can’t wait for the blue eggs and the children have so much fun with them. they are Lily(the orpington), ZEBRA or Zeb Zeb, and Strawberyshort cake(the Aracanas). Sadly they and thier matriarcal (cochin)hens have been eating all that I plant lately…though they haven’t messed with my lemon tyme by the coup so hopefully that will thrive.Love the Chickens and Fresh eggs are so wonderful you will enjoy thier taste and color. I have a few friends interested in chickens since seeing ours and I will be referring them to your blog for beauty inspiration with chicks!
