Dream Big

Fpress

What's your dream? Do you have one? Is there always that "one thing" you think about doing somewhere in the back of your mind? Maybe it's to open a charming French coffee shop or start a line of children's clothing or perhaps even a yoga studio. Do you have one?

I might be a little late to the party here but Kelly Corrigan has said it like none other. I must admit, I haven't read any of her books and didn't know who she was but when I came across her video for the first time this week I could not get it out of my thoughts. It stirs my soul and makes me want to Dream Big.

If you have a lingering dream that won't go away take action. Dream your dream, make it happen! I for one am encouraged to continue to persue mine. How about you? Do you dare?

Oh so funny, I just picked up her book The Middle Place the other day. I can’t wait to finish the book I’m reading to start this one. I love her!

My dream, at least for the past 10 years, has been to open and run my own Bed & Breakfast Inn. Since Tom and I met 5 1/2 years ago, it’s been “OUR” dream. Right now, the only thing holding us back is $$$$$!! Our ages have nothing to do with it, as some have suggested! (me-60, Tom-66)
If it weren’t that we needed MONEY to buy the house and turn it into a B&B…and keep it running…I would have had my B&B 10 years ago!!
I keep dreaming…and we keep looking at potential houses. I’ll NEVER give up this dream.

I have been living my biggest DREAM for the last 15 years….being a mommy and creating a home for our family. My other BIG DREAM was to be a writer and now I’m blogging and writing almost every day….which has been pure JOY. It is always good to have something NEW to dream about.
Have a beautiful day! xx P&H

Thanks for sharing this!!! I opened a store 1 1/2 years ago…My Dream!!! Sometimes you need to hear the confirmation again to keep your energy and spirits up!!! What an encouragement for my day!!

Kelly has such a special way of putting things. Always providing us with so much food for thought. I love her video on Women, Friendship, and Transcending, and this one. So much of making that dream a reality is just doing it…making that leap…putting one foot after another…every day…day in and day out…

    Heather,
This is so strange that you post a photo saying “The French Press”, because Dave and I are so wanting to open a coffeehouse right now, because it would be something he could do easily with his heart condition. But that name would be so perfect, I wonder if we could steal it. 🙂 Or maybe French Cup! You have inspired me more to keep pushing forward to help my husband with his dream. Love it!

I’ve always thought that to realise my dreams I needed the right circumstances. I was wrong. Now I know that the right circumstance it’s ME. I hope to have the courage to realize my dreams….

My childhood dream was to live in the Colorado mountains and spend my time playing with art. This is where I am today, but I had to hang on tight and survive a wild ride to get here. Dreams are wonderful – living them even better.
As always, it is a joy to visit you, Heather. Thank you for the link to Kelly Corrigan’s website.

  9. Tamra

My dream was to be an artist. A real one, not a hobbyist but one who supports herself or maybe even her family from doing what she loves, art.
A few years ago I left the corporate world to do just that, follow my dream. With the support of my family I jumped in head first and became a decorative artist. I take classes and network with other artist and love every minute of what I do. Whether it’s the walls in a room, ceiling art, canvas art or creating beautiful countertops to look like marble, stone or anything the homeowner desires, I love every minute. Even when I start a job and feel nauseous because there’s still that little inner voice that says “What are you doing? Stop before somebody realizes you’re not an artist and you ruin something!” Nope, I ignore it and keep going and am always grateful in the end.
I am not yet making a living but know I will soon. Promoting myself is the hardest. After all what I’m offering is not a product but me.
Thank you for this wonderful video!

I have had many dreams through out the years, but one has always kind of stuck with me. And thats to open an art studio tea & coffee house/shop. And my dream place to do it would be in an old Victorian house with a barn… many other dreams I had, well I have been blessed with them, one of them is my dear kids and now my dream for them is to have a good life ahead (both are teens heading out to the world).
This made me think of my dad and what he used to say to me “dreams are wonderful, and best part is that they are free”… I miss him

Yes, I had a dream and it finally came true in 2008. I opened a small shop with 2 friends in Coronado. I always knew I would have one and never gave up the dream. Some days when I drive over that bridge to the shop, I still have to pinch myself. The first year was the hardest but we have learned so much in a years time. Great post Heather.

    I wish I dared…but I do still dream.
I’ve recently found your blog and I’m enjoying it very much. Thanks so much.

Thank you for introducing this wonderful video. It’s very inspiring

  15. Rie

I’m living my dream. Really… I always dreamed of a big family. I love putting all my creativity and energy into my home to make memories for the people I love. The ultimate dream come true for me.

My dreams lie in the garden. I cherish my everyday simple act of digging in the dirt. Planting living things and nurturing them. I’m living my dream.

I do wish I could DARE! I really do.
I want to own a house and decorate every room with item’s I have refurbished myself. In the kitchen & dining would be a place to sit and eat simple but very yummy food made from scratch.
    Oh to have a dream.

  19. Adrianna

Yeah, I watched the video again and the tears started coming. I don’t know if it is shame that keep me from sharing my dream or the fact that it is so dear that I would like to protect it with all my might. Thank you so much for sharing this video. I will also share it and link back to you for the inspiration.

  20. Julie M ~ The Little Red Shop

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been pretty passionate about historic preservation. I grew up taking Sunday drives with my family and looking at houses. I dreamed of having a little shop in a beautiful old building one day. Now, I have a wee tiny little shop…and my mama and I, (she’s my business partner and one of my best friends) have rescued and moved a 1919 bungalow to restore and be my new shop. We have a ton of grubby work ahead of us…but I have always, always…been able to picture it beautifully finished…and furnished with the treasures I’ve been collecting along the way. The lovely package you just sent, however, is for the main house…(which is also under restoration)..and will definitely be put to good use! Thank you so much!
    Have a wonderful weekend, Heather!

Fabulous post. I had a dream to leave the Corporate world and run my own business but had no fixed idea where in the world as I spent 15 years moving from country to country. I have been in France 3 years now and the business is doing well but like any enfant requires constant time and effort. Every day I dream a little bit bigger and my dream is to expand the business as we have outgrown our current place.
I agree with Kelly’s comment re a positive friend as it is easy for people to be negative when it comes to setting up a business and people are often scared of the unknown.
It is better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all.
    Leeann x

  22. Sherrie

Oh my goodness. I have goose bumps. I just made a decision this week to finally open my own store of selling my creations and vintage finds. It is scary but something that I have dreamed about for only the past 10 years. I have a mini poster at my desk from a magazine, Mary E.’s that reads….It is never too late to be what you might have been. I turn 50 in August and knew that I had 17 years to go before I retire and I couldn’t be doing the office job I am doing, for another 17 years. So seeing your post after I announced my decision was like a sign of affirmation. That I am doing the right thing. Thank you.

  23. Stacey @ The Blessed Nest

What a wonderful video/essay. So encouraging, and I’ll admit to being a little teary right now because I’m trying to get over my fears of “What if I just suck at this…” in order to realize my dreams. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist & if it isn’t “perfect” then it’s not good enough. But I’m slowly realizing that I’ll never know if I don’t try. Thanks for sharing this!
    Blessings,
    Stacey

    Oh Heather!
This video was the perfect thing for me to see today…I decided that this year was the time for me to start “persuing”! And my word in starting out this year was adventure… life has thrown in a curve, with an adventure that I would have had no desire to deal with, but even with that I will continue on!! xoxo Natalie

A very dear friend sent me this link, and I am so moved by it! Thanks for sharing it with us. I just signed the lease today on a studio and I’ve been feeling sick over it! But I believe in myself, and in every woman who wants follow her heart and make her dreams come true.

  26. shantaie

thank you for sharing this, as so many of your readers have shared, this was just what i needed today!

  27. Susan

i guess i’m late to the party too, i’d not heard of her before now. it made me cry really, i can relate to so much of what she said. i’m off to find her books. thank you heather! enjoy the weekend! susan

  28. Kim

Made me cry too. not sure what my dream is yet… but I am going to give it a lot of thought now.

  29. Liz

    Thank you. I needed that.
Was sitting here as exhausted as I have ever been. Thinking that I simply could not find energy to draw the next breath, much less get up off this chair. Then I clicked.
I’m still as tired as I’ve ever been, don’t get me wrong, ;-p but a sliver of hope – that I could actually survive kick starting a second new business – peeked in thru a crack in the gloom.
It’s my dream. I can do this. I will do this.

  30. simpledaisy

    Thanks for sharing!!
    Just what I needed!!
I do have big dreams….but sometimes I feel like I have too many dreams and they all get kind of jumbled up!
I need to really focus on what direction I want to take things:)

  31. Mitzi Curi

Thanks for sharing the video, Heather. I need a little pick-me-up now and then. I’ve been working on my own dream for 11 years, revising it when need be…..I wanted to start an antique business, which I did (11 years ago); wanted to sell on eBay (done); decided to start an Etsy shop (done) and start a blog (14 months ago). Whew. These dreams can be a lot of work, but so fulfilling. If anyone that hasn’t begun to work on their own dream, think of my favorite quote: The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

  32. Jessica @ 24 Corners

Thank you so much for posting this…my cheeks are wet. Just last night I picked up a Talbots catalog that has been sitting around unread and there was Kelly, I didn’t know who she was…then, this morning, I click on your blog (first time) and here she is! I’m slightly amazed right now!
I’ve started three businesses, built a house (almost done) and through all of it the encouragers and discouragers where right there with me. I learned who to share with and who not to share with – and what to share and what not to share!
The key is to just keep moving forward despite the naysayers, and do your best to realize your dream. It is so important to trust yourself… and even though it would be so wonderful to have everyone support you…if this is not the case, then focus only on those who do and the others will come around eventually when they see your accomplishments down the road.
Thank you again Heather for posting this and thank you Kelly, for speaking to all of us out there who need a voice such as yours!
Blessings to all who are thinking about and reaching for, their creative dreams…
    xo Jessica~

    Hi Heather
Like so many others I am living and enjoying my dream. I frequently declare ” I hope I live long enough to do everything on my list.
    Dwelling in abundance

  34. Heather Bullard

Oh, French Cup…perfect! I wish you and Dave all the best as you continue your journey. I for one would love visiting your coffee shop!
    Best,
    H

  35. Heather Bullard

    Tamra,
I think your thoughts echo those of many artists. There is always a tinge of doubt, self-talk, etc. Continue persuing your dream..after all you’re the most important voice!
    Best, H

  36. Heather Bullard

    Adrianna,
Keep your dream to yourself until you are ready to handle all the “input” from others. You’ll need to be able to be strong and continue persuing…no matter what!
Wishing you all the best. H

  37. Kerri

What a wonderful post Heather, and Kelly’s words rang so true. My problem is trying to combine all the creative sides of me into a viable career – but I’m on my way and loving every minute of the journey. Really, they say the first step is the hardest, and that is so true. I think worrying about the ‘what-ifs’ holds many people back, but what if you don’t? – I’d rather try and fail, than wonder what could have been. Thanks for a great post and beautiful blog, I’m looking forward to following. K xx

  38. Bonjour Romance

    Bonjour Heather,
Just found your beautiful blog and boutique via your ad on Karen Valentin’s site. You do such lovely work. I guess like everyone here I have so many dreams…I dreamed of meeting Mr Right in Paris – it happened and here wea are living in the City of Lights.
I’m also working on launching an online magazine which I am so excited about. I’ll be following along and will be back soon!

Wow, what a great post, I know what my dream is and hope to live it soon, but love to meet people who are inspiring others to do the same. Yes I dare to dream…

  40. Linda

    Hi,
I love your blog Heather – thanks for the inspiration that you share with us!
Kelly Corrigan is always right on the money, she speaks from her heart – I would love to be at one of her readings!
Our company slogan is “Dreams begin when we dare to envision them” – and it really came from us dreaming big and then working really hard to achieve them.

Well I’m super late to this post but I would love to bring my passion of home rearranging into a real business instead of just doing it for friends for free.

  42. Theresa

I loved this so much! Blogging has been a wonderful inspiration for me to dream again… Not that I ever gave up on them but always put them behind me. Everyone I’ve met on here has given me the nudge I needed to dream again and do something about making them come true! Thanks for sharing, Theresa

  43. Michelle

I’ve dreamt of having an antique shop for the longest time. Last month I took the leap and leased a space in a large antique mall by us. It’s scary but I’m so happy to have jumped in. We only get one shot at this life so following my passion is important to me. My first month in and I almost broke even! It just goes to show you don’t know what you can do until you try.
