Library Table
To say I have an obsession with books would be an understatement. I'm not going to bother trying to be cured. I feel it's a healthy vice. The only downside is that I'm running out of room. I would ask The Man to build some bookcases on the upstairs landing (pretty please) but he's in the middle of the hen house project and I don't want to rock the boat.
So I pulled my favorite flea market table into a small corner of the living room and created a home library table. I filled it with many of the design books I browse through over and over. And I set a few old tattered ones inside a soup tureen.
I cut some branches from our fruitless pear tree and put them in a wicker wine jug. Don't you just love branches?
Here's a sprinkling of items from a nature walk along with a mixed bag of vintage photos.
Now all that's left is kicking off my shoes and curling up with a good book and a cup of Earl Grey. But first…I need to go make The Man a hot lunch. He's on a mission to finish the hen house and has even been building in the rain. He's sorta crazy like that when he's focused. But lunch is the least I can do wouldn't you say?
To catch up on a couple happenings…the french doors have finally been installed. The manufacturer ended up replacing them for free! They even reinstalled them for us. And the painting is done in the living & dining areas so I'll try to write a post about that as soon as I get some time to take a few photos for you. We've been quite busy on the homefront lately. Kinda fun. Well, I speak for myself. He might think differently. ; )

Your little nook is beautiful. What a great table! I love that old pine. — Any idea when you will post on the hen house? I am just chomping at the bit!
This is a lovely vignette. What a comfy looking corner. Love the photos too.
What a beautiful tableau! I’d love to park my latte on your library table!
What lovely treasures you have to display. Great soft colors – it looks very relaxing and peaceful.
You have SUCH a great eye Heather. Love all of the eye-candy you share here with all of us *smiles*
Love the table! Enjoy your tea and a good read, you deserve it! Pamper your husband for working in the rain. Good men are hard to come by.
I like books too, i just went and got the Rachel Ashwell bookshelf at target and I love it!
Love that table Heather….just worn and aged the way I like them! I have the same affinity for books..lots of them and just picked up ‘For The Love Of Old’ today! As I was reading about your hen house, I was wondering about your doors. Can’t wait to see!

Love that vignette! Gorgeous table and basket! ~lulu
Such a gorgeous vignette! I am a bit of a book addict myself and have been trying to find a new storage solution, this is so perfect. Especially since design books like these are so aesthetically pleasing. I love the touches you’ve added with the vintage pieces and the branches.
i love, love, love your style!
i can’t wait to hear about the hen house. do you live on acreage? we live in a tract home in murrieta and i’ve been wanting to get just a few hens. our backyard is pretty big, but i don’t want our neighbors to think we’re nuts. 🙂
H~ Looks lovely! We have been busy busy around here too. So much to catch you up to date. We are leaving this Friday for Joshua’s graduation from boot camp. Almost 2 weeks in Chicago. WooHoo. Much love to you and yours. Blessings, Kimberly
Your blog makes me happy and calm – as do books. I have always said that it is impossible to feel lonely in a book store, so I love that you are bringing this into your home.
I love books also and am constantly trying to squeeze more in. I wanted to thank you for your post sometime back on the Mission Inn in Riverside. My mom got remarried there a couple of weeks ago in a small ceremony (just them and another couple attended) and it was so nice to tell her that I knew exactly how beautiful it was because of your blog. I loved that I could bond with her and ask specific questions from the great photos you had taken. J
Oh, how I love old books, new books, big and small books. One of my favorite photos of books was in Mary Englebriet’s studio…they were simply stacked on the floor all the way up the wall..maybe not so practical for those you may want to pull out frequently but it was definitely a great design element. :0)
Have a lovely day…I’ll come back to see your finished hen house. :0)

What a lovely post, Heather. Stunning!
Beautiful table and vignette Heather. A perfect bright and sunny corner too! Is the table a new score or did you move it from somewhere else?
Love these photos Heather. So light, fresh and calm. In fact I love EVERYTHING about your blog. Can’t wait to see the new doors and have been hoping you’d share what that great, new paint color is in your home.

I love books too…and considered recovering them in a solid color, after seeing that done in so many magazines the last few years…but the task seems a bit daunting…have a suggestions? Have you done this?

These pictures are great inspiration images for a romantic bedroom or a lake house – I love them!
Oh Heather! The Water Babies! I love that book!
Heather—spent the last hour attempting this gor-jus vignette at my place. LOVE of books: yes. Wicker wine jug: yes. Shells & nature: yes. Heather’s eye: no! Oh how I get lost here. Thanks for the lovely treat…
Did some fluffing yesterday(all day) and could NOT believe the number of baskets of books I have. Love love them. So that basket would be brimming with unread books if it were mine. (Have a bag in my closet to fill with all of my paper backs that go to a nursing home).
I am envious that you have blossoms on your branches. Spring is many months away here, but my heart is aching for it, as I do every year. I too have great affection for books, and my one bookshelf is getting full and overflowing onto other areas. The side table is lovely with its weathered finish. Perfect in every way.
