{DIY} Mason Jar Soap Dispenser
I made this Mason Jar Soap Dispenser to use on my potting bench. I’m always needing to wash my hands after working in the garden and this sturdy jar should last me a lifetime of hand scrubbing. I think it would look just as great in a bath or kitchen and I thought some of you might want to make one too. Here’s how to do it:
Gather your supplies…old plastic soap bottle, mason jar, 2 part epoxy, drill, scissors and marker. A box cutter also came in handy in removing the top of the soap bottle.
Cut off the top of the soap bottle leaving the screw threading intact. Also leave a small rim just below the threads for the epoxy. Drill a hole in the mason jar lid so your bottle top will fit through it snuggly.
Mix the epoxy according to the package directions and apply to lower rim of bottle top. This will make a water tight seal. Please excuse my hand model…he’s been building a hen house (chicken mansion) for us and is a bit dirty. But that’s another story for another day.
Lastly, insert the pump through the hole and screw tightly to secure. Let it dry according to the epoxy instructions before using. If you’re not worried about the seal being water tight and don’t mind the pump spinning around you can completely skip the epoxy step. It’s entirely up to you. : ) All that’s left is to fill it with your favorite soap and put it to good use. Enjoy!

This is such a FUN idea! It would make a great gift, too! I wonder how it would look as a lotion dispenser- would it become unsightly as you used it? Looks like a fun project! Thanks for sharing!

You really should make these and sell them on your online shop! I used to have boxes of these jars but sadly, I got rid of them years ago…darn!

Heather` as always you continue to inspire me. Actually…my latest post on necklaces for your repurposed glass(wine/water) bottles, was a reflection of the inspiration I gather from my visits to your charming blog. I hope you can stroll by to see sometime.
Sweet wishes,
Sara
That is completely brilliant!
That is a great idea…I weep to think of all those jars that I threw out when we cleaned out our family home 🙁
I will watch the stand carefully for your magazine. I am sooo excited!
This is such a fantastic idea! I can’t wait to give it a try, thanks for sharing.
Great idea! It gives me an excuse to go antiquing for a vintage mason jar. And maybe something else..
LOVE IT!!! I use old mason jars in my kitchen to hold sugar in lieu of a sugar bowl and to hold powdered creamer (yuck) for my hubby, and as salt & pepper shakers…You’re so creative! Thanks for a great idea!
Pat
I had thought about doing this but couldn’t figure out how to get the pump to attach to the lid, brilliant! Thank you!

Thank you so much! I was just about to spend $25 with shipping charges on one of these…now I can make one for free. I just LOVE that you can see the soap amount and it looks so much better than a dish detergent bottle on the kitchen sink.
Make it a GREAT day!
Denise
This is fabulous – I love it. Thanks for the tutorial.

This is a fabulous idea. Thank you for posting the instructions. One question though. How did you get the hole in your zinc lids? My zinc lids all have a glass liner. I even went to the local flea market to see if I could find one that did not and the all had glass. How did you drill through this? Thank you for the help.
LOVE this!
I absolutely love this! I will be making it!
Love this!
Thank you for sharing this! I have been searching the web for awhile now to find out how to make one of these.
Thanks again!

Absolutely LOVE this project and just linked to it on our blog for how to use wedding decor in the home after the big day:

Oh this is so awesome, thank you!
Thank you for sharing the directions! I LOVE your blog by the way! The chicken coup got me right away!
GREAT projects and inspiration!
I made some of these but I did the larger jars. I bought pumps from the beauty supply store for $2 ea which left me with no top to screw in at the bottom of the jar lid. I used epoxy putty and filled the pump cap and then squished some around the base on the bottom side of the jar lid. Worked like a charm. Thanks for sharing your plans, I love my soap dispenser jars!
Such a great idea, I have a whole cupboard full of old jars, time to rifle through them and make me one of these!
alicia
You rock. Thank you for sharing this great tutorial. We certainly have enough dirty hands over at my place to benefit from your kindness! Bless you.

Yes,
go to TAG SALES..Sometimes there are great jars and they are old..Just make sure you have a cover for it…
GOOD LUCK
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE I COULD GET A COPY OF THIS PATTERN ON HOW TO MAKE THE SOAPAR…CAN ANYONE HELP????
IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED…
I’m using that one in my kitchen and garden and probably the bathrooms too!! Thanks for the idea!
Aren’t mason jars great?!?! I wonder if I can use the ones I get with spaghetti? (Classico brand uses mason jars) I save them for canning. They have whole metal lids, but have writing on them, I suppose I could paint them. Do you think you could use foaming soap dispensers? I prefer using them because they only use 1/3 soap and water (Frugal gal here). I just don’t like reusing the bottles with labels on them though. These jars are so much prettier!
make sure when you drill the hole that you put the lid with the flat side down (not the hollow, threaded side). 🙂
I have several coffee jars with designs molded
molded into them on one side and they have a red plastic lid on them. I think I
will try using one of them. Thanks
so much for the idea. I am 88 years old but I
still like making things. Thanks again.

This is.a. wonderful idea!!! Love it!
I LOVE Mason Jars!!! This is so cute! Side note My moms maiden name is bullard, and i have a cousin(?)named heather bullard…how funny!
its absolutely amazing!!simply love u r ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very cute and simple! Encourages people to actually reuse the container (and buy refills) rather than just buying more of the same little plastic bottles.
I like the dirty hands. Model hands show a person not willing to work hard and get his hands dirty and vanity, both of which I despise!
Great Idea! Just perfect for my bathroom.
Thanks a lot!
